Customize historical mode?
Is it possible to edit certain files to customize the historical mode? Like, say I want to go into historical mode but have teams set up in different cities (but without having to do everything manually one year at a time like in custom mode). Is there a way to achieve that?

If you are importing players to their actual team, then one value you would not want to change is either teamID or franchID because one fo those (I forget which) controls to what team players are imported... And there are certain things in historical mode that are hard-coded, so you would not be able to, for example, add the PCL into the file in order to make it a 3rd major league. OOTP would ignore that. (Again, all of this is based upon my experience with versions of OOTP prior to 17.) If you are going to try this, be sure to 1) make a backup of your teams.csv file (copy & rename it something like teams_original.csv), 2) try it out on a test league first, and 2) report back to let us know how it goes Good luck! |

Very unfortunate, as this was one of my favorite things to do. That is, to get rid of those roman numerals in the ballpark names. I mean, it's ridiculous to see in the play-by-play text, "Welcome to South End Grounds III." Or another favorite: "Sportsman's Park IV/Busch Stadium II." (Don't we all have fond memories of that ballpark?) I hate it when OOTP takes away flexibility. Boo. |

odb files are not edible nor are they editable. Might as well wish for one as the other.

it's just read only? what about opening, "saving as" and then editting and re-saving as read-only. as long as you can return it to the state you got it in, all is good.
curiousity nearly piqued if it's against the eula... meh.. all hypothetical in nature anyway

You'd need a program that opens and allows you to edit odb files. I don't believe those exist outside of the OOTP developer world. I could be wrong.

Wrong is not what you are in this instance. Actually not even OOTP fellas can edit them. They change the source files and recompile the ODB.

no why would you think that? They just use the same file extension but that means nothing and (before you ask) native americans have nothing to do with this either.

A bit weird to use such a common extension for something completely different, but it certainly happens.
And the .odb extension long predates modern OpenOffice anyway. |

Damn shame. I'll go back a version or two and enjoy my fictional historical world then, I guess, and maybe export to 17 when I reach 2005-ish.
