historical manager question

I'm just digging into OOTP 17, playing historical, and I'm wondering about historical manager changes. I'm seeing that the real-life managers are associated with MLB teams, and are often referenced in game recaps. I wondered what happens when managers change in real life, so I did a test, simming the 1965 and 1966 seasons...

In some cases, when there was a change in RL manager, OOTP assigned what appears to be a fictional manager. In other cases, OOTP made no change, leaving the manager in place even though in RL he was replaced. Examples:

- Al Lopez managed the '65 White Sox and was replaced by Eddie Stanky for '66. In OOTP, though, Lopez remains as Sox manager for '66.

- Casey Stengal was replaced by Wes Westrum during the '65 season, and then Westrum managed the team in '66. In OOTP, it appears Stengal managed the entire '65 season, and then was replaced by the fictional Price Jones for '66.

- Johnny Keane managed the Yankees in '65 and was then replaced by Ralph Houk early in '66. In OOTP, however, Keane remains the manager throughout '66.

- In early '65, Mel McGaha was replaced by Haywood Sullivan as manager of the A's, and then Sullivan was replaced by Al Dark for '66. In OOTP, though, McGaha continues to manage the A's through '66.

I can't really discern a patter here. Might I have a setting wrong some place?

For my purposes I'm assuming this is just window-dressing, as my only concern in bringing this up is that it's cool to have actual managers' names in the recaps. So, when the OOTP manager differs from the RL manager, Is it possible to either change the manager, or edit the manager's name?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if using real transactions would change the MGR or not but you could always Act As and fire the current MGR and Edit the new MGR to that team.

Yes, I'm using real transactions.

Would your suggestion require the new manager to exist in OOTP (as a retired player or unemployed manager/coach)? Or would I need to create the manager via cloning another manager or... something...? Or might it be either/or, depending upon if the new manager exists in OOTP or not?

Real transactions do not include managers.

If he was a player i would make him a coach then using commish mode put him on the team you want. If he wasn;t, which is rare then create him from scratch.

Got it. Thanks!

I don't want historical managers having anything to do with AI in OOTP. I only want them for cosmetic purposes in stories & such. Therefore, I'm assuming the only real way to do this would be to only enable Full Coaching System for brief times - like just before the start of the season and any time I need to make an update for a mid-season manager change - and then manually make the manager change - then disable it, and move forward.

Correct?

Never tried that but wouldn;t all teams coaches be blank or fictional when you re-enable them?

Based upon some very limited testing, they would either be blank or incorrect.
