Minors- How to manage them?
Although I'm not new to OOTP I haven't really played it all that much and even when I did I used to play offline where I never really had to rebuild, I would just retool and never had to take care of my minors very well. I have never really understood the best way to handle the minors.
#1. When do you typically know when a guy is ready for the next part of minors, for example from A to A+ lets say. Are there any tricks or things you look for to let you know? #2 If lets say you draft a 21 year old where do you start them? Do you still put all your recent picks in Rookie ball? #3. If someone is doing quite good and you actually think they can jump a league do you? Or do you go from Rookie to A to A- or whatever order the leagues are in or is it okay to jump as long as you don't skip AAA? Or is even skipping AAA okay? #4. Do you let your minor league managers handle promotions and demotions? Can they be trusted? I'm still scared to do it though thinking I may screw things up. #5 Do you pay much attention to the Up and down signs? #6 When you have too many players in one team and especially too much talent in one position I know its smart to move some to another league so they get more play time however what do you do when that fills your other team, seems like an endless cycle. #7. Any other tips I didn't ask or mention would help. Thanks guys |

It still doesn't answer #2 and #3 #2 If lets say you draft a 21 year old where do you start them? Do you still put all your recent picks in Rookie ball?* #3. What I normally do when I draft a college player is I start them at my Short-A or Low-A team. I play with potential ratings on a 2-8 scale, so I will look at what my scout has them rated at and then will go from there. Usually it's Short-A and if they struggle, then I will send them down to Rookie and see how they do.
I tend not to skip levels in the lower minors....so if someone is doing well at Low-A, I will send them to High-A and see how the play there. Same with High-A to Double-A. Where I tend to skip levels is from Double-A to the Majors. If someone is tearing it up at Double-A, I will usually give them a look in September, unless they are my future and I am rebuilding, then I will bring them up earlier. If they struggle, then I send them to Triple-A for a short time. I will use Triple-A as the spot for guys I signed as insurance for injuries, reclamation projects or the older prospect that still needs some seasoning or I am trying to teach them a new position. |

I think in all cases there is no hard-and-fast rule. You put players where you think they will succeed and see the most improvement.
But what I tend to do is compare ratings against whatever players are at a given level, and then use stats as my guide from there. |
