My coach insists on overusing the same SP

Partway through the season and my #2 pitcher has 21 GS. My #1 and #3 pitchers have 17 GS and 15 GS, respectively.

It seems my coaching staff just plain prefers to start my #2 guy on 3 days rest - even if he pitched 100+ pitchers 3 days ago and is still yellow.

I have changed rotation mode from Strict Order to Strict, on occasion use highest rested. This doesn't seem to change the behavior at all.

Of course, this otherwise great pitcher doesn't perform nearly as well when he is used like this.

How do I change this

I believe you want to use Strict Order over the occasion use highest rested. Also, did you check if there were there any injuries involved with the other starters?

What are your settings? gm only, gm and manager?

I had actually started on Strict Order when I first noticed this occurring. No injuries on the staff so that's not a factor.
I am gm and manager.
I do have set pitching staff assigned to my bench coach. But I would think this would give him choice to select the individuals and the rotation, but then he should follow the Strict Order selection I made. Is this not correct?

I don't know, put it under your control and see. How is your other starters stamina? Have you played around with pitch counts or hooks in player strategies?

All of my SP's have good stamina. He's not even the best stamina. He's just the best performer (when he doesn't start the game dog tired from having just pitched, that is)

Do you have it set to use 7-day lineups? That can cause unexpected results if you don't realize you have it set to "Yes" and aren't watching it.

i use all three versions, depending on the situation. so, i can say with confidence that what you are seeing should not happen... i've never seen it start someone with 80% stamina - or 1 day early range of recovery (70's-80's% depending on stamina and # of pitches thrown).

--are you on the default stamina? i think it is one lower than previous years? or something has changed about it, at the very least. in '17 on default mlb pitcher stamina, you will never be higher than 85% after 3 days rest (as opposed to 4 days in a 5-man rotation). think it is very low now? either way, double check it... load a quickstart if you have to learn what default is.

--are the other pitchers very poorly rated in comparison? that would only matter relative to your scout's view on them, not the real numbers under-the-hood, i would guess.

-Force starting players or various control settings can cause some odd things to occur. even finances if you are missing players (less than 25 in mlb). definitlely double check everything.

when i put it on always use highest rested, i do see it use a lower pitcher in the order who is better rated than one above him when they are both 95-100% rested after. that's actually why i stopped using it when i have a younger, nearly developed pitcher i want to get more starts.

Not positive, but the AI may revert the setting back to 'highest rested' if your staff is assigned to bench coach.

You can try going into your game settings -> League settings -> Stats and AI, and setting rotation mode there to strict order. This is what I use anyway, to keep the AI from using highest rested.

Always check this first when you have guys going unrested or a rash of injuries! I lost half a team once before I figured this out

Yup. Had 7 day line ups set. I'll keep an eye on that. Thank you.
