Converted from pitcher to outfielder

Have you guys seen this in your leagues? I thought this was pretty neat. How have your experiences been with players converting?

In my fictional file, the number 1 prospect in the WBA going into the 2059 season is 22 year old Antonio Aranda. Drafted 2nd overall out of college, Aranda remained a starting pitcher for 2 1/2 seasons in the Red Knights system before being officially converted to the left field position this off-season. I believe I've seen this a few times before in other files, but never with a top prospect, let alone THE top prospect.

Based on stats and potential ratings, do you feel that club made the right move? Seems like he was doing fine as a starting pitcher, but they must have felt his ceiling was higher with the bat. His potential stuff was off the charts, had great stamina, and looked like he was going to have 3 plus pitches. Will be interesting to see if they made the right call!

He is almost fully developed as a hitter already. But no where near as a pitcher

Yea, 22 with average k-rates in the low minors...if he has the kind of hitting ability the ratings indicate he should be doing that.

I drafted a lowly rated pitcher with great hitting ratings in the first round signed him fir cheap then made him a 1B. He was really goodbfor 4-5 seasons but hes decreased performance lately

I mean, there is real-life precedent. Some guy named George H. Ruth.

just depends if that 3rd pitch developed. he's a perrenial cy young winner with stuff/mov/con potential ratings and 3 pitches. he'd be a dominant back-end of the bullpen guy too.

since both options are so good, i'd probably make this decision based on my team's future needs (est. when he would be developed). even as a reliever.

people grossly undervalue a RP that goes 60-80ip in a year. take a look at BF and compare that to AB of a position player. it's much closer than you think. the positional player does add value by playing defense that is not accounted for in their offense, of course. so, an all-star batter is probably > all-star reliever, but team need can trump small differences, imo.

He's hated in the clubhouse but he broke out in a pretty big way in his 3rd season in the WBA. Finished 3rd in MVP voting and won a Silver Slugger in LF. He's already a 2x All-Star.

He strikes out a lot, but at this point it has to be viewed as a good move by their staff. I look forward to following his progression with the Red Knights.

Love that he is now nicknamed "Dingus". I decided to turn nicknames on just to see what some players in my league are called, and I actually laughed out loud when I clicked on Aranda. I'm going to assume his teammates gave him that one. Probably why he looks so pissed off.
