Player Options

When (what date) in game do teams have to decide on a players option, the date when a player can exercise a player option, team option, or opt out of his contract ? Is it a specific date when an email shows up in the game where you have to reply!! I sim an online league and have simmed past it as a mistake in a previous season.
It does not indicate it in the events listing in the league.

I'm pretty sure it's the first day of the off season. Well, sort of sure. I think. Maybe. My memory sucks.
