And technically speaking it was something that was thinking about last night Suppose somebody starts a historical league a 1984 and just for this discussion let's say they choose the San Diego Padres and in that season in real life made to the World Series lets say in the game they don't and two years laters Tony Gwynn is not with the Padres anymore. Heck or even Jeter is with another team, or Ruth never hits 60 to me technically that's all fictional now

It could be argued that as soon as one day is simmed in any mode, it becomes fictional. But we all know what is meant by historical, modern, and fictional.

True on both counts, although it is worth noting that no one would be interested therefore in a game that was not at least a little fictional, because if you use real teams (present or past), the point is to change the destiny of the team you take over.

there seems to be some emotion attached to whether one playstyle is more popular than another.
![]() for some, it seems that's the key problem as opposed to the argument about whether any hard data exists. that "hard" evidence listed is far from 100% acccurate. i can think of numerous ways in which that data is skewed. playing time is the key... people create leagues on a whim, for testing, and for any number of resons that will cloud the 'real' answer to the question. Still fictional all the way.

The entire concept of fictional bores me.
I am fully aware that if you play a quick start it devolves into fictional, but since I don't sim my games, at least it takes quite a while. Oh, and arguing against the stats provided by Markus is stupid. A lot of people on this board prefer fictional... and if that is what you like, more power to you... but if it wasn't for the ability to play the current players, the game wouldn't still be going.

I will not vote because the question is loaded for historical play. I play MLB which is real, but becomes fictional.
