This Game Is Cruel
Sorry, I have to vent.
I went into the season with high hopes. We finally made the playoffs the year before after back to back losing seasons. I spent more money in the off season, made a trade to improve the bullpen, thought I did everything right. I pulled the trigger in July, traded a top prospect for a starting pitcher. One week into September it looked like I had done everything right. We were up four games, everyone was healthy, then....collapse. We finished September 10-17, our only losing month. The day we were eliminated I fired my manager. His contract was up anyway. Another off season, time to push the rock back up the hill. I know, if winning was easy it wouldn't as much fun and gratifying when it happens. But I reserve my right at the moment to be sad. Wait till next year.

Keep it up. Not every rebuild is the same.

I guess the best way to get over this past season's el foldo is jump right into the new season and put it behind me.

So I kept going day-by-day, even a few weeks at a time, just simming and not paying much attention. Until I started to see my team rise in the standings in mid-August. I was not sleepy anymore. Seriously, I had given up on this team, a cardinal sin! "They" taught me a lesson, they did. ![]() Long story made short, they came very close to going to the World Series (it was 1949 and they almost won the AL). Maybe if I had not given up earlier and kept on actively managing the lineup and roster . . . That's how this game goes. Sometimes in the other direction from what you just experienced.

Sometimes the shaman dissipates into the void.
Sometime the void dissipates into the Shaman. In the end, the shaman and the void are one.

Didn't want to start my own thread but I just had a very cruel moment.
My ace threw a perfect 9 innings, but we didn't score any runs. I watch my games as GM and in the 10th inning he went out there tired and walked the first batter, then beaned 3 guys in a row to give up a run. At that point the manager pulled him, and we gave up a sac fly. We scored 1 in the bottom of the 10th, but we lost 2-1, the other team had no hits, and my ace was perfect through 9. It was punch to the gut. |

Yep. Through three years in my new fictional league I won the division my first year only to be swept in the first round by my division rival (after they moved on from the wild card). Year two I saw a September collapse of epic proportions when I blew a nine game lead to finish second. Made the wild card but lost. In my third year I again had a five game lead slip away in September and finished second. Fortunately won the wild card, won divisional round in five and currrntly tied 3-3 in championship series
