Amazing two way player

I just entered the rookie draft in my fictional league and the best hitter was listed as a pitcher. I took a look at his ratings and wow, I've never seen anyone this highly rated at both hitting and pitching. these are true ratings, no scouting.

Anyone else ever see anyone like this?

Now the question is, would you keep him a starter or make him a fielder? I do question how his changeup will develop, considering he's already 22.

It seems like OOTP 17 has more of these two way studs. Personally, I would let him pitch every five days and DH or play him at 1B or 3B three out of the four other days while he's in the minors. He's more of a sure thing as a batter but his pitching potential is too high to completely forget about.

Had this guy show up in 2017 international amateur free agent class in a 2016 MLB Quickstart game that I had simmed the 2016 season and expanded the league into Montreal and Portland for 2017, needless to say (playing as Portland) he will be moving through my minors quickly

i've never tried to develop both. i usually just pick one. each time it's significantly affected by what i will needed when they are likely to be playing in the majors. i still typically go with the stronger ability, if the difference isn't negligible.

if i had to pick one:

with this particular guy, i'd have to develop his bat. if potential dipped at all, i would make a decision about switching his position mid-stream, because he is an "ace" pitcher, too.

wow. he's a 1b, but wow. certain hof numbers even if he has mostly "down" years and reasonably good health. you don't say that about many players. (assumes development, and he is already 1/2 way there.)

EDIT: didn't notice the 1/x changeup...

if you absolutely want him as an SP, i'd give it ~1 year on that changeup moving up a tick, otherwise you got yourself a reliever. maybe upto half way through 2nd season since you have a 1-10 scale. i should add i like to maximize careers of these types... so at 22/23 in his first season i'd expect him to be in the bigs in 1-2 years with that type of potential. that's not a whole lot of time to ride the fence on the decision. his stamina isn't real strong, either. he's not someone you can consistently pitch on short rest, if you do that sort of thing -- even the playoffs, if not regular season..

budgets and scouting accuracy are improtant factors... all of what i wrote above assumes fairly accurate numbers.

i also think developing both would be cool. it would take a bit of micro-managing, i assume.

Definitely his bat. Like others have said, the stamina and possible lack of a worthwhile 3rd pitch make him too big of a risk. He has the defensive talent to be an adequate third baseman, which is more than worth it with his offense.

Salazar's movement is horrendous. He's not major league pitcher material at all.

That's a tough one he's in my opinion would be better as a DH/hitter but also a pitcher he can be good but not as a starter I think he's better suited as a Reliver

you could try to pitch him for 100 innings and then have him finish the season as a batter

Given his age, you're probably best off developing him as a hitter.

But in most cases, if you develop a two-way guy as simply a pitcher, his batting ratings will come along just fine and you'll end up with a two-way star.

That's what I'm seeing too. He might become a journeyman pitcher if he pans out, but he has far more potential as a position player.

I probably have more experience than the average guy with players like this, I have searched them out for several versions in an attempt to find the perfect Two-Way Player

Even doing so in my Online Multi-Player leagues. And while I have kind of slacked off in OOTP16 and done nearly no research in OOTP17, I'm sure the basic principles of this thread apply, Hope this helps
