It's Playoff Time in the ABA
Three time ABA Champions, the Nashville Greys lead the field of six hopefuls as they each try to capture the ultimate prize in all of baseball.
Nashville became just the second team in ABA history to amass more than 100 wins in a season. They take the top seed in the HL. The only other team to win more than 100 games in a season is Buffalo (109 in 1991). The Brahmas will try to avenge their championship series loss to Tucson as they take the second seed in the tough HL. Upstart Sacramento makes their second trip to the postseason as the champions of the HL West while Hartford will attempt to shock the world again and win it all from the Wildcard Spot. In the KL, Ft. Worth wrapped up the Central division weeks ago despite a record that rarely crept far above .500 all season long. Oakland faced a much stiffer challenge in the KL west, but held off the field that included defending champion Tucson to take their first division title. The KL East has been up for grabs all season, and the it finished in the same way. Miami held off upstart Richmond and Pittsburgh floundered in the last two weeks. Miami finished as the division champion and Richmond, picked by many to finish last in the KL East, earned their first playoff birth with a surprising Wildcard season. The Matchups: vs Nashville and Hartford – Nashville won 8 of the 13 games with the Hornets this season including 5 of 7 at the Grand Ole’ Ballpark. Nashville took the first 7 games of the season series before being swept in Hartford in mid June. The two teams have not met since June 20th. Nashville is the top team in the ABA, winning the Championship trophy in the first 3 years of the league and participating in the post season in each of the league’s 6 years. Hartford won the ABA championship in 1990 as the HL Wildcard representative. vs Buffalo and Sacramento – Buffalo won 8 of 15 contests between the two clubs this season. Both teams are lead by strong pitching staffs and solid lineups. Buffalo lost last season to Tucson in the ABA Championship Series and have won the HL East in all 6 of the ABA’s first 6 seasons. Sacramento went through some major changes in the 1992 offseason. New GM Dave McLellan took over and guided the Senators to their first HL West title since 1988. vs Miami and Ft. Worth – Three times in the past four seasons these two perennial KL powerhouses have met in the playoffs. Ft. Worth has come out on top each time. This time Miami sports the KL’s top record while Ft. Worth finished at .500, still winning the weak central division by 5 games. Miami holds the slight edge 7 to 6 over Ft. Worth on the season. vs Oakland and Richmond – Oakland goes to the postseason for the first time in franchise history as the division champions. The Bay Bombers have made the postseason twice as the KL Wildcard (1988 and 1989). Richmond makes the postseason for the first time in team history. The Roosters finished with the second best record in the KL with a club record 91 wins. Oakland took 8 of 13 from Richmond in the regular season and hopes that the unveiling of their new team logo will excite their fans and carry them to their first ABA championship. |

Nice preview Joe.
The Game Within the Game Hammer755 vs. LivnLegend Looking for a chance to root on your favorite OOTPer? Care to jeer your most despised OOTP foe? Well, it is your rare opportunity to do both, as the always lovable Brave booster Hammer755 faces off against curmudgeonly Raider fan LivnLegend in the 1992 ABA Playoffs. As league commish Joe Allen noted earlier, the Crocs of Miami have had limited postseason success (read nonexistant) against the hated Roadrunners of Ft. Worth. Last season played out eerily similar to the upcoming series, as Miami was the top seed in the Kuffrey League, while Ft. Worth brought a 0.500 team to the table as 'Kuffrey Central Champs'. Ft. Worth walked away with their third consecutive playoff victory over Miami in a cloud of general arrogance. Worst of the cocky, but not funny, Ft. Worth players is closer Henry 'the Hammer' Smith. Litigation is currently pending between the Miami organization and Smith over the use of his nickname on official ABA merchandise, as the word Hammer, and all variations thereof, have been officially licensed and copyrighted by the Miami owner. The last laugh may be on Ft. Worth, however, as Smith refused all attempts by Ft. Worth to sign a contract extension in this, the final year of his contract. Rumors run rampant that Miami will make a large push for Smith during the off-season. The word on the street is that Smith may accept a smaller contract offer in exchange for Miami management dropping all copyright infringement charges that are currently pending against him. It should be a good series, and due to Miami's lack of success against the Runners, please show your support of the Crocs in this thread, or if you just want to root against Ft. Worth and evil RealDoll magnate Scott Fite, let it be known!!! It just may get Miami off the shnide. Last edited by Hammer755; 08-15-2003 at 02:15 PM. |

We are torn! Hate to root against our KL Central brethren...but those Fort Worthless boys have made our lives miserable (we've helped ourselves, of course...
) However, it is playoff time so we have to adopt some division pride...so...*blanch*..."Go Runners!"...(but if Miami wins, we won't cry too hard...heck, we won't cry at all )Best of luck to all the playoff teams! Good stuff Joe!

I got, like, 40 PM's from people giving me their support in this series. Ft. Worth has never lost a playoff series to Miami in the long history of the ABA and it's not going to happen now.
Ft. Worth feels good in knowing that Miami will be trotting out Todd "Gas Can" Lane in the late innings of any close ballgame. With Lane's 21.24 ERA in last year's playoffs vs. Ft. Worth, its little wonder why Miami would not be interested in pursuing Henry "The Hammer" Smith as their closer. Ft. Worth has dominated the ABA Kuffrey League like no other team in any online league in history. With 8 straight Kuffrey Central titles, a fan interest of 100, and the most merchandisable player in the league in catcher Remington Poe, it is little wonder why the Ft. Worth Roadrunners are truly “America’s Team”.

I like the trash talkin', but the game really is meaningless. That Nashville team is like the Yankees of the ABA. If they get to the World Series, its all over. Still, as a Kuffrey Central member, I am going to have to root against Ft. Worthless.
