Should or Shouldnt I recalc league totals

Anyone have an opinion on if/why league totals should or shouldnt be recalculated? For a fictional league or historical.

I run a league and have always recalc'd totals and always see severe fluctuations in some player stats. I.e. player hits 350 on year and 240 the next, then right back above 300 the following season. This happens more often than not. I guess I was wondering if recalcing the totals impacted the game this way or what.

I understand the jist of what the button does. And it seems to me by recalcing the totals, you are changing the weight behind a rating number.

ANy opinions or feedback. I just need to know IF i shoudl be doing this or just leave totals alone or not.

Thanks

i'm guessing that recalculating the totals can affect individual players to some extent, but for the most part its not going to be the difference in the abve scenerio...just a guy having a great year then slump & back up (early matt williams)

My impression is that if you're using Lahman or Ankit's database in a historical league, you don't recalculate totals becuase those numbers are already built into the historical players' stats (i.e. deadball era pitchers are better in the game than modern ones, because they're generated from their stats). Fictional leagues you would use them though.

Do the same fluctuations happen for all the players (do they all go up or down .50 per season) or just for certain guys?

If you use the search function in this forum you will find some old threads that deeply reviewed this topic, and showed some pretty significant changes over time without recalculating league totals. Personally, I wouldn't recalculate league totals unless I wanted my league to change to a different era as well.

I was well aware of the search button but did not find much.

Dougaiton - it happens with many players and not just specific ones. And it is that dramatic on some of the occurrences.
