Question Preventing a Player from playing a position

I drafted a 2-way player and changed him from a P to a LF...much higher ratings/potential. He's 17 and in GCL. The computer, although not in the rotation or pitching staff usage screen, still has him starting 3 games so far. I don't want to lose his pitching potential, but want him to play LF. How can I set this up without sacrificing stats?

Go into the player strategy screen and use the force start function to force the AI to start him in LF. That should do the trick.

Can you also do this to prevent a player from ever playing a certain position when he is in the lineup?

No, there's no way to keep a player from playing one position, but being able to play anywhere else. It's not a bad suggestion, though.

If you zeroed out his rating for that position in the editor, would that do the trick?

It should. I wasn't sure if you were willing to use commish mode moves. That should remove that position completely.

prospects do as they are told... you shouldn't feel bad about removing a position you don't want to develop. force-starting at various position to gain experience is the other side of that coin.

just removing the experience doesn't mean he won't play other positions... he most likely will not pitch, in almost all cases. however, if he's somewhat developed as a pitcher, ie stuff is not 20/80 etc, and there's a total lack of pitching in your minors i cannot say for sure he would not pitch.

focring him to start a 1 specific position will guarantee he does not pitch (or vice versa if you want them to pitch).
