Free Agent Decisions
I'm curious how people handle superstar free agents you know you won't be able to resign.
Currently, I'm 3 games up in my division and have the best overall record (though 66 fames to go) on July 26th. With the trade deadline fast approaching I have 2 FA to be I know I can't resign and am trying to decide if trading one or both is wise. How do others handle this? If your trying to contend then don't trade em, if you know you can resign then I wouldn't trade them, just use them to push to the playoffs, then slap a QO on them and take the 2 draft picks so you can get 2 supplemental round picks that could be better than the prospects you could have acquired.

Since I play with the 2012 bargaining agreement off (I hate how it was designed to harm low-budget clubs), I always let it ride and offer arbitration.
If you *are* playing with 2012 on, I'd say: a) If you can afford qualifying offers, keep them and do that b) If you can't, and have a player ready to replace them, make the deal c) If you can't and don't have a player ready to replace, them, stay put and win as much as you can. |

Hmm...where would I locate the 2012 bargaining agreement option?

A contending team wouldn't trade superstars at the deadline. I'd even venture to say close to contending teams wouldn't trade superstars, unless they are small market and these aren't like franchise players who've been with the team for years.

Don't trade either one. A chance at winning is more important than a couple draft picks. Offer him a qualifying offer at the end of the season and take your draft picks.
The only other thing I'd consider is shop him around and see if you can get an equal talent or slightly lesser talent with cost control or a guy with reasonable contract remaining.
