Cato Update Question

How does Cato's Utility update it's database? I'm in 2007. After the season when I update the utility does it just add 2007 to the end of the database? If I was to use an editor to change some players career stats will Cato go back and change them too?

My problem is that back in my league year 2003 I had to restore my league twice after proceeding to the next season with my backup so now I have multiple retired players from that year. I've been using an editor to edit the duplicate retired players to 0. Will this affect the Cato Utility database at all?
