Question Owner and Comments

Okay, I know that I did not make the playoffs and that was a goal, but hey, I took an expansion team in 1977 (Toronto Blue Jays) and in 1980 I won 106 games against 56 losses. The team had a great season, there just happened to be a team slightly better in my division and they had a triple crown winner in Eddie Murray. I think the owner comments can be humorous, it would be nice if the owner recognized the success!

i got tired of the owners asking for "hometown" players (after i traded for one and he got career ending injury three days later), better attendance and then cutting budgets ... so i disabled them after a few seasons. Now all i get is i should make the play-offs ......

I rarely listen to owner. As long as I am winning I don't listen. If I need a player that the owner wants and fits MY goals then I will do it. As long as your winning no owner will fire you.

If my owner really gets on my nerves I trade all my good players then switch teams.

The Braves owner always wants you to resign Jason Grilli in 2016. Resigning a 40-year-old closer is really top priority in the middle of a rebuilding job.

I like the feature, but frequently ignore the owner because of the reasons stated by others. I've seen requests to resign player that wanted big salary when that player was a cancer and every player had comments indicating there were chemistry issue on the team, including an email from the bench coach. I traded the player mid-season, my team chemistry issues went away and the owner really did not care because the team met every other goal.

Same here I never listen to him. I can't be fired anyways

Here's what I did with a previous version....I'm fairly certain it can still be done with OOTP 17. The owner of the club that I was a GM for got on my nerves to the point where I just had to write a slanderous article about him in the 'League Newspaper'. I really let him have it, potty-mouth style!

It was so comforting, and relaxing, to open up the 'paper' and reading the malicious diatribe. And it looks so official as well!!

Maybe the feature should be revamped and instead of owner goals there should be "media expectations" or "fans expectations" without much consequences. The owner (perhaps depending on personality - so that public pressure could still be a factor) should measure the success objective.

When you mentioned 'media expectations' immediately came to mind something like newspaper articles written by a local reporter covering your team. It wouldn't have to on a daily basis, perhaps even once a month. Or after a league event.

I would favor that over owner goals, which I really don't want to disable in this version.

Unless you are playing at risk of being fired, and enjoy the suspense and challenge, then the only other reason for having owner goals and comments is that they can be instructive as to what the team and organization needs. That is why I keep the option on.
