Rehab Assignment Issue
I have age limits for my minors, and want to turn off rehab assignments so teams are not cutting MLB players in the minors because they are over the age limit.
Anyone know how to do this/play with age limits and have a solution? |

i would prefer to just turn off rehab assignments to curb this issue, but the yankees just sent Chapman to AA to rehab and cut him instead of sending him to AAA like I would prefer

League Settings -> Rules and select the minor league from dropdown box.
one thing that will also help is to make sure the 5/10 rule is enabled so that mlb'ers will reject being sent to minors. think it's on the same page, but your Major league selected to see the option. i don't remember this in '16 but i also didn't look. i no longer disable this rule, it helps alot. i thought it would enable clubs but it really just screw things up in the minors. i wouldn't do ages below 28 for A-AAA. (check manual for development cut-off... that # instead of 28.) e.g. a college player gets drafted that is 23... he doesn't develop so well but is stillr ated well... gets bumped into A or higher and can't compete and skills go to crap. So, at some age it will be very very unlikely to develop, use that age instead. 25 is probably close but safer at 26 probably for rookie and short a. i've seen a player go rookie-AAA in one year - it can happen... using a restrictive age can cause you to lose that player if they are too old. don't use roster limits for the minors, either. i find it mostly adheres to the roster options for # of relievers, position players etc... if you want them to have 28, for example, add a couple to relievers/hitters on that settings page. making sure each minor league "plays potential" over ability (Stats and AI settings page) at each level will ensure the right prospects get playing time even if it gets crowded on some AI run teams. I use age 28 for A-AA and no age limit in AAA for rehab assignments. i originally had 24/25 for R/SA but then upped it to at least 28 or i may have just removed it altogether. i don't see old players in those lowest leagues, so no worries. Right, but given the restrictions of the game and how the AI acts when no restrictions are placed on the minor leagues like consistently holding onto slightly better actual rating guys who have no shot of ever making the majors (27 year old A ballers) it's best I can do with the system. My issue is just turning off rehab assignments, or figuring out how to only allow rehab assignments in AAA I know others on here use age limits so I feel like there is a way to solve this. |

Seems to me OOTP needs to recognize that a player sent on a rehab assignment should be exempted from any and all roster restrictions that might exist within the league itself.

This is how I set up my game and haven't seen any issues like that.
league - age limit - roster limit AAA - none - none AA - 28 - 30 A full season - 26 - 30 A short season - 24 - 30 Rookie - 22 - 30 DSL/AZL/GCL - 22 - 35 It may seem to make sense to put an active roster limit of 25, but in reality minor leagues have higher than 25 players, and then just pick 25 for game day. EDIT: I also upped the draft to 40 rounds, I found this lets the AI get enough younger players to actually fill out their lower rosters, and then dump 1/2 star potential talent for more recent draft picks. I posed this a couple days ago, but if you actually want a 40 round draft to work, you have to reset the draft order the first year before you do the draft or they will only do a max of 35 rounds regardless of what you set it to. quick question about this feature...what happens say if you have an enacted age limit of 26 on your AA leagues, and a player starts the season as a 26 year-old, but turns 27 over the course of it? Is he exempt?, or must he leave the team immediately? Hoe does the AI handle this?

I've increased roster limits and still seem to be having this problem since it's an age limit thing.
Age limits have been turned off but it sure would be nice to have a solution to this. |

They actually cut Chapman?....yes the AI should have placed him AAA, but you likely didn't have an open roster spot there. Sounds like the AI needs some work here. Calling Mr. Matt...

This has happened exclusively to RPs, no one of significance other then Champman but it's a minor glitch/error that I either don't know how to turn off or needs to get fixed.

about players above age limit:
what about hte league function for setting up teams? look over league functions on teh main league settings page. maybe one will avoid screwing up your organization. a slower method would be going team by team on rosters screen and select "ask ai to set up minor leagues" from Available Actions, but you would not screw up your team. another would be to go to the settings page containing allowing ghost players. turn it on, temporarily. then, select option to fill rosters relative to ability. (really just have to switch it, if it is already set). this should cause minor legues to adjust, including yours -- even locked players. turn the setting off, and old players shuold not exist where they are not allowed, i'd assume. i am about to put a 32-35 age limit on AAA. it's getting a bit ridiculous. in my leauge you need a .700-.750 record to lead AAA every year. the 10/5 rule helped a bit. right to refuse minors, too, but it still is pretty bad. how it affects developement is my only concern. i lock my prospects and control them systematically through the minors. so, they will always get playing time. i don't care about the rest, tbh. -- mbi, the second second screenshot showed the min/max age setting.
