How to stop the crap offers for my studs

I repeatedly am offered guys that are 20/20 (on a 20-80 scouting system, so essentially crap) for Garrett Richards, Andrelton Simmons, etc. Is there a setting I need to tweak to stop this madness?

A couple thoughts...

Ultimately, you can mark individual players as "Untouchable". I do that for my core guys that I'm building my team around. Yes, I realize this would possibly prevent someone offering me something good for them but it certainly cuts down on the noise.

Secondly, we are guilty of some of the same by trying to see what hidden gems we can pry away from our AI counterparts. As annoying as it is for the computer to stop your sim every 2 or 3 days with another variation of "their crap for your best player" it's at least worth considering that the shoe is on the other foot at times, too.

There really isn't a way to force the computer to offer you trades that you personally would deem worthwhile. Further, if the computer only offered value for value then they are surrendering an advantage to you which is something we don't want the computer AI to do. They are supposed to be playing by the same rules you are. At least you do have the ability to drop the hammer by marking a specific player/players untouchable.

Play ball!

Edit: One final thought - if a team is offering you a trade, even a bad one, that may be seen as an indication that you could engage them in some back and forth where they are at least in the mood to listen to some counter-offers.

it's rare that the offer is a good one... on occasion though...

use it as another way to gauge interest from other clubs. not unlike clicking "shop player" then using the list to find out which teams shows the greatest interest, but not any of the actual trade offers, lol.

when my teams are loaded and set, i still just delete these messages. maybe if i am really scrounging and desparate i would pay attention to it... low reward and high effort... not my cup of tea when things are going well.

I turn off the 'stop sim when I get a trade offer' as well. Have played nearly every version of this game, and not once have I "ever" made a trade with the AI when I get an email from them, because they're so ridiculous.

I haven't either and I've had hundreds, maybe a thousand, email offers since OOTP 4.

i've seen 1 worthwhile trade proposed, ever....

it was pure luck that i saw it, because by this time i mostly ignored these emails. they regularly were "expired" by the time i deleted them... i want to say i got a good position player, but it may have been a top-tier closer too -- and it was for a player i intended to get rid of that offseason or the next. he ended up having a long hof career, but that's beside the point. so, in hindsight it was a terrible deal too!

I have, very rarely, it seems when the other team has a dire need

I think the real question should be why does this keep happening. Can't this be tweaked to make the offers more compelling? The trading system is much improved this year because at least you can specify what you're looking for, but the AI should be making less lopsided offers.

I noticed this myself. The trade offers are often very lopsided.

This. This is absolutely true. I know I've been guilty of proposing lopsided trades to the AI...

I have found that turning down the trade frequency setting to very low early in your game helps a bit.

I saw it mentioned somewhere a while ago that the AI doesn't have a real attachment to any of their players and are trying to build a team that they want (I'm paraphrasing, of course ).

Anyways, the reasoning made sense to me.

As your season moves along, you can turn the frequency back up, and offers get at least less insulting from the AI.

Under the MLB Player trade tab, there is a setting called "Team Needs". I've set a couple of specific players I'm trying to acquire (C 27 and under with "Good" minimum quality and SS with the same). The AI tends to suggest players that fall close to what I would consider, although it always defaults to one of my 22-24 year old 5 star players as the player wanted. It's a little more of a "controlled" ridiculousness for the trade AI.

Perhaps one of the most interesting trades I ever made, was I got an cruddy offer for one of my young minor league stud pitchers. I decided to play around and see if a deal could be worked out for other players.

I asked for a young stud SS, the AI had stashed at AAA. I offered two AAA SP's, who were not really prospects, but veteran pitchers who were roster fillers and would have been called up in case one of my rotation pitchers at major league level got injured. One of the starters was having a GREAT year at AAA, but not really good enough to cause me to promote him other than injury. I also had a couple other veteran position players - roster filler - at AAA. Both were starters and had decent numbers, but not enough to crack the major league roster. I threw them into the deal. I went quantity for quality. To my surprise, the AI accepted the deal.

Sometimes it pays to do a little negotiating. At other times, it is major waste of time. And I'll bet that is true to life.

This is a specific scenario, but this sometimes causes a spike in bad offers from the AI:

Let's say you have, for example, two superstar shortstops on your team but no second baseman. There's an obvious solution: play one of them at 2B. But the AI will still think that you need a 2B and will endlessly offer their 1.5 star 2B for a top young player. If you change the position on one of your shortstops to second base, the offers for a 2B will immediately stop because now the AI knows that you've filled the hole.

i generally will discuss a trade with the team, just not the one they offered. most often i get "this is close to being an insult" but hey, so was their offer, and then i reject the thing and move on. Once in a while something works out to help both teams. Worst offer i had was in a previous game/version i was playing, they wanted Babe Ruth, who just broke the HR record with 63, hit .365 plus they wanted me to give them $4500 in return for two minor leaguers, one who was 34 and was a lifetime .215 hitter and the other was a 20 year old reliever in A ball with a horrible ERA, but some potential. That was one time i wished the game allowed us to return the "This is as close to an insult" line back at them.

so, basically, you just have to read the offers, reject them and move on. at least that's what i've had to do.

I have managed to reduce my bad trade offers by making core players untouchable, and equally important, telling other teams I am not interested in the player they are offering. In addition, the only time I trade during the season is during the All Star break, and at the trade deadline. If I need to fill a spot I would rather get a crappy free agent for a year, than trade for a crappy player with a three year contract.

I make extensive use of the "shop player" function when I want to trade. Usually this will give me several players to choose from if I am offering a decent player. It does seem to me that waiting until the Winter Meetings gets more offers for good players. Trading during the off season allows me to look at the big picture. Trading for need, during the season, usually doesn't work out very well.

i make core palyers untouchable and turned trade frequence to low. it may just be the particular player that's off the list. no idea which is making the most impact, or if it's simply '17.

i've been offered cy young pitchers in OotP '17 games, among other quality players. previously, i've only seen 1 trade offered that wasnt a 20-rated reliever. most of the trades were still a little too one sided, but some were viable.

This is true. It was driven home for me one time when the AI sent me an e-mail telling me to quit wasting his time, and that my lame offers were taking him out of his autoplay. I felt kind of embarrassed.
