Earned Runs vs Unearned Runs
Looking back over the past 6+ years, I see comments about OOTP not doing a great job of counting earned vs unearned runs in years back. Is that still an issue with OOTP 16? I know this isn't the most recent version of the game but it is what I am still playing so I apologize if this is addressed in OOTP 17 already.
I've attached a couple screenshots from a game log. They're both the same inning (bottom 3rd) but it was too long for one image. As you can see, the first runner reached base through an error and I can see it being unearned but what about the next five? You can't see from the log but there was only one earned run in the game (from a previous inning) and then these five unearned runs. Is there something I'm missing or is this just part of the same issue I was seeing in the forums from years back? Is there at least some "OOTP logic" that I can follow such as all runs after an error are never counted as earned in OOTP or the game doesn't count runs as earned if there is no throw to the plate? |

The game is counting them as unearned because if the play had been made on Vega then Anderson's groundout would have been the third out of the inning.
I believe that is the correct scoring, and it makes logical sense to me, but I'm not totally familiar with all of the real life scoring rules around unearned runs so I can't say for sure if it corresponds to real life.

That does make perfect sense now that you've pointed it out. I don't know why I didn't see that myself. I suppose it just seemed odd that so many runs were considered unearned, but that's completely logical to me now. Thanks
