Historical batter WAR seems to be buggy

I'm in the process of setting up a fictional world. Started in 1970 (but with perpetual 2016 stats/financials/etc) and I'm letting the game sim 30 years to balance out after creation. Every year or two I'll check various stats to make sure nothing is out of whack. I recently noticed batter WAR from previous seasons is off. According to the individual season leaderboard, there have been 93 batters that have posted a single season WAR of 13+. This obviously would be an issue itself. However, the weird part is having payed close attention to those seasons, I can assure you those WAR totals are not what those players posted in those seasons. Somehow, the game retroactively changed the WAR for various players. (Also should note that this only appears to be an issue for batters. Individual single season pitcher WAR seems to be unaffected.)

I have no idea what would have caused this, and as I'm still in the sim stage of setting up my world, I was going to delete all history and see if the problem persists. However, I figured before I did I'd check and see if this is a problem anyone else has had and if there is anything I can do to prevent it from happening again.

WAR is not "stored" for players, but is recalculated. Because of that, it can shift slightly for previous seasons as we do store data slightly differently (ie. we may use the MLB average values instead of AL-only average values).

But I would certainly expect that variation to be only fractions of a point. The only other thing I can think about is if you are not storing career fielding stats (Game Settings -> Players & Facegen), then obviously the defensive components for players would not be accurate.

Definitely buggy. I hope this hasn't ruined my long term fictional historical league.

Dick before the update, was around 100 career WAR. Now all of a sudden he's 228 career WAR.. This is not good.

Current season WAR calculations seem fine. It's affecting historical/past seasons.

Last example. Seasons are somewhat similar, but look at the difference in WAR..

This happened in my fictional as well. Have simmed from 1901 to 2024 or so, and went in today for the first time in a long time, and noticed a huge amount of 13+ WAR seasons that weren't there before.

No worries Matt. I'm just glad we can bring stuff to your attention and you quickly look into it. With some other companies it can take weeks.

Thanks for everything you guys do.

Yea I just loaded my MLB 2016 quick start up (Im in 2021 currently) and everyone's WAR from the past few seasons has sky-rocketed!! I'm glad you guys noticed the error...how do I go about having it fixed back to the way it was? This will screw me come negotiation time I'm guessing.

The .59 patch is the one that messed up historical WAR. Matt said a fix should be out shortly.

Was just coming to report on this, just saw some crazy WAR numbers in my 1993 historical league that started in 1963.
