Shop Player & Injured Players

I play with the ability to trade injured players, however when I shop players, I notice the AI is willing to trade a way pretty good receivers for bunk, just because the receivers happen to be injured for an extended period of time. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, do you also feel it needs fixing/adjusting?

I have done some experimenting with this, and it seems it is very easy to acquire very good delivers who are injured just by offering a low minor league player. I think this may need to be looked at. I like the ability to trade injured players, but I don't think the AI should be offering top quality young releivers just because they are injured.

Yes, I have noticed that and it appears to be a cheat. Not guaranteed, of course, but you often end up with a very good, healed player for cheap. That is why I turned the option off in League Settings, Rules.

OTOH, if they're fragile, it may end up being you have a good reliever for half or less of each season. Money's money, but if I have a guy sitting around making even an average amount of $ doing nothing, and a team willing to trade a minor leaguer with a reasonable future, I don't have a problem with that.

Perhaps the other manager believes that the injury will affect future performance? So, his stats were great before the injury, but in fact you are trading to get a guy that will be a lemon when he comes back?

Yes, and come to think of it, I will back off what I said before. I do recall once or twice when the guy was essentially done when he came off the DL. So, it is a gamble for both sides, an interesting one.

I turned the option off as well...it's a cheat, but if it's to be a viable feature, this needs to be addressed.

I am seeing some who had Tommy John (Capps, Miami) but too many others who are simply out for a coupe of months, and are rated as great/very good relievers with stats which also reflect this.

You can see that I am wavering. Well, one thing is for sure; I am going to take a careful look at this. If it's just sample size, that's one thing. If it's a cheat, then it's another and it gets turned off. It should be about a 50-50 chance either way, I'd say, but taking into account the pitchers' ages. A younger guy would have a much better chance of making a full recovery.

Heh, another forum member is currently complaining about too many good pitchers in his league (somebody replied with some good commentary about possible ratings/PCM's issues). I have the OPPOSITE problem usually. Good, even serviceable pitchers are scarcer then hen's teeth! That is why I want to take another look at this thread topic.
