2016 MLB Draft Day connundrum

In real-life MLB the First-Year Player Draft is this Thursday, June 8th. However, in OOTP MLB it is tomorrow, June 5th. I like to replicate the real-life draft picks so I'm probably going to wait until Thursday to pick up my OOTP replay so I can make the same draft selections the real-life team does. How many of you employ this strategy? Or do you just draft the players you prefer?

It's madness! Madness I tell you! For the love of god don't do it!

Seriously, though, I tried simulating a draft just once. Doing a whole 35-round draft killed all the momentum I had for my real-time simulation league and that was the end of that league.

I wish I had a better answer for you. Maybe "commissioner mode" all the draftees into their real-life teams and cancel the draft (or reduce the draft to one round and have each team pass their turn)? That's probably what I would do if I was faced in that situation again.

You can change the day of the draft in OOTP by going to League Settings > Rules > Amateur Settings. I'm going to the do the same thing. I did do another sim where I made my own picks for each team, based on talent, need, signability, and hometown (I wish MLB teams had more hometown guys) but I want more realism going forward.

Also If you want to follow the first few rounds precisely, will have to create a few amateur players and make them eligible for the 2016 draft. Guys like T.J. Zeuch, Brandon Marsh, Austin Hays, Braeden Ogle and Keegan Akin are nowhere in the game. If you want to do that, go to Free Agents and click the "Available Actions" tab and then click Create Fictional Player(s). After you fill in the appropriate info, the game will generate a player, and the players name will flash on the screen. Find that player and then use Editor to make him into the real life drafted player.

Thanks! What I wound up doing was simulating the draft and on Thursday I'll use Commissioner Mode to trade for the players that got drafted by the Cubs in real-life.

Don't even worry about the trades. Just go to the players profile page and manually assign them to AZL Cubs or Boise (Boise is a Cubs farm club, right?)

Also assign the players autodrafted to the Cubs to their real-life organisations so you don't have too big of a roster.
