4 Man starting rotation set : AI starts 5

I have the starting rotation set to 4 in my historical sim. However when I go into certain teams, they have it set to 5. I set it back to 4, and next year it is 5 again. Is this normal? I want every team to stick to a strict 4 man rotation.

I'm also seeing what I'm not sure is a glitch (maybe just a weird managerial quirk I'm not finding a setting for in the editor tab?) in my current game, wherein my team's manager keeps starting long relievers over fully rested pitchers who are in the rotation every few days or so. Of course, it ends up being a bullpen game whenever he does that, and then the relief corps is exhausted for the next couple games.

I'm not sure if this particular problem you're having is related, but I think something might be "off" with how the AI handles pitching rotations.

My season is currently in 1872 so there aren't a whole lot of pitchers to go around to begin with. I am still seeing the AI use starters for closers and relief pitchers for starters.

One thing to note is that in spring training we tend to add one extra arm to teams (so they would use a 5-man rotation in spring), but otherwise teams should run with the number of pitchers as specified.

Now that you mention it, I have been looking at rotations on the first day of ST as that's when I also set my league totals to 1976. Once I move to opening day, it is back to 4. Thank you very much for the quick input.

This is great OOTP response on the 4 vs 5 rotation. Any input on the AI starting relievers over rested starters?

That I'm not sure about. If you could give more details about your setup - using 7-day lineups? is it the same pitcher that gets skipped? or any other things you can note, that can help us track things down more. I certainly have not seen that except when your starters are tired, so I can't comment more on it.

just in case this fixes it:

make sure pitcher stamina setting matches your league's preferred X-man rotation.

Does setting league totals to more modern settings affect things like pitcher usage? It would seem like it would kind of have to. Stamina is lower, for example, so they need more pitchers.

modern 5-man rotation is "low" i believe (default)... 1 below "normal," if i don't have the label correct.

so, Normal will likely be great for a 4-man rotation. check that before doing anything permanent, of course.
