A Third Conference?

I know that officially its not possible.

However,if I merge The Midwest League ,Florida State League and California League(with California League being in the Western Conference),I could still keep the Midwest League and Florida State League separate in the Eastern Conference if I tweak the schedule keeping Midwest League playing only Midwest and Florida State League playing only Florida State with some mixing of inter-conference games.

I would like to see a third/fourth subleague added as a possibility, especially considering the MLB has toyed with one in the past. You'd have to figure something out for the World Series or equivalent, but there are options.

Should be doable under the customizable playoffs system I have in mind. (At least, I know it accounts for standard round-robin situations. May need a tweak to do handle the kind of three-way idea Branch Rickey had.)

Will be nice if you could elaborate more on that that sounds interesting

There was three major leaks at one point with the federal league. By the way I don't play historical so I don't even know if they're in the game or not but imagine if the federally survive or even the American Association or if the Pacific Coast league did become a major league or even if the proposed continental League did move forward. There could've been a good possibility we could've had there could've been a good possibility we could've had 4 major leagues at one time. Actually any of you read the history of the Mexican league especially in the 1930s 40s and 50s they were trying to recruit big names down there, there was even talk about them becoming another major league

What I have in mind is basically like more sophisticated schedule files, with additional 'tags' (sort of like what you find in HTML) to set up the playoff format and match-ups, in addition to the playoff schedule itself.

You'd have to set up these playoff files outside the game, but the trade off for that is having vastly greater flexibility in terms of how one could set up the playoffs. I don't think it's possible to have an in-game, menu selection-driven system like that currently in that game and have maximum customizability—there's just too many real-life playoff options out there, and any in-game system would soon become hopelessly cluttered. It is possible in a schedule file-like system, since then it's a matter of having the right tags defined for the system.

An advantage of an external file is that one could trade these playoff schedule files with others, provided the basic playoff parameters matched (e.g. number and type of qualifiers). As well, each real-world league included with OOTP could have its actual, proper playoff format—that would include more unusual formats such as the KBO.

I haven't worked on the idea in awhile, but still do have my notes for it around somewhere. I had gotten pretty detailed in terms what it was including. (The concept was specifically intended to recreate as many real-world playoff formats, baseball and otherwise, as possible.)

Yes, it seems like that in prospect. But by looking at some examples, it wouldn't really be that hard to figure out—unless you wanted a more unusual playoff format. Most of it is in knowing what tag does what, and what criteria can be used with each tag. And I've tried to name things and structure things as simply and logically as possible.

My thinking is that OOTP could ship with a variety of pre-made playoff schedule files, much as it ships with a plethora of regular season schedule files.

The power of a file-based system like this is that you could create almost any conceivable playoff format. You could even do things like conditional playoff qualifiers. For example, you could create a playoff format for a single-division league where the top two teams qualify for the playoffs—except when the third-place team is within a specified number of games of the second-place club, in which case then the second- and third-place teams play a preliminary round first. But this preliminary round only occurs in seasons in which that third-place team satisfies the specified criteria.

The only area I haven't really factored in would be promotion/relegation playoff scenarios, as the game doesn't officially support promotion/relegation, but these ought to be addable into the system without too much trouble.
