Can Anybody Explain This or is it a Bug?

Just finished the June amateur draft. As usual my scout was drafting 1 star players (potential) towards the end.

But somehow the free agent pool has become a gold mine of leftover amateurs. How can this be?

I'm gonna assume that maybe those guys were very hard to sign.

I've signed 4 as free agents who just wanted a minor league contract. No haggling. They all want $410,000 to sign and I've offered $350,000 and they signed with no problem.

I have a similar issue in my fictional league, but slightly different. A lot of teams draft players and then release them within a few months. And my scouts think a lot are great prospects, so I have 25+ great prospects to sign. They mostly have low intelligence & work ethic, though. And I can only accommodate so many guys in my rookie league teams, so I just sign a few.

Most of them do have low work ethic and intelligence, but I was able to find and sign a few with high ratings in those areas.

KInda seems like a bug and/or an exploit.

That shouldn't be happening.

Did you put limits on the lower minors (roster size, age limits)?

No there's no limit.

My fictional league has similar (though not as extreme) "leftovers" every year. I always thought I was just a smart manager for diving straight into the FA pool after the draft!

I know what you're saying. Same here. I have a fictional league too with the MLB teams and structure. Only the player names are fictional. Guess we're not such great GMs after all.

Hmm...I'm not sure why it is happening then. I sometimes see promising guys show up in the FA but not like that. I sign them but it always feels a little gamey to me.

I agree. It is gamey to a point. Most of these guys have work ethic or intelligence problems but there are definitely a few very good prospects there.

The scout assessments aren't necessarily accurate.

Thanks and I now see that that's what's causing this. Shoot I thought my scout was pretty good until I saw your answer.
