Want to manage and also want to see player development

I really like the managing portion of OOTP - deciding on shuffling the lineup before the game or bringing a reliever into a game. In the past I would play ever game but I don't seem to get through more than one season. So I don't experience the thrill of seeing prospects develop or filling gaps in the off-season.

For folks who like to manage hands-on and are yet to get through multiple seasons, what do you do?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Manage all playoff games and some series throughout the year and sim the rest.

When I manage, or just watch, I would manage/watch every fifth game and simulate the other games. That way I could get through a season in about 3 weeks. It's slow enough that I can watch the pennant races unfold and watching the battles for league leaders but fast enough to not get bored--unless my team really sucked.
If I play out more than 3 games in a day, I find myself just pressing the space bar and not paying close attention to the game.

That's what I do. Maybe 80% of the games I sim and 20% manage. Even the ones I do manage I usually sim to the 6th or so.

I play and manage 99% of everything now (spring training, off-season, hiring/firing, etc) - I have the AI setup the minors only after I've locked everyone who I don't want promoted/demoted.

I used to sim all of the spring and then most of September. I would often sim my 4th and 5th starters too.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm wondering if I should play out the home games and sim the away games. That would speed up my season by 2x.

How long does it take to get through a season?

I play out the games, on one-pitch mode, unless I'm figuring on a steal and then I'll switch to single-pitch mode for that at-bat.
I sim the pre-season figuring that my AI manager does a better job playing all the guys than I would.
I usually get 2-3 seasons in per calendar year.
Playing more often I get bored and just blindly play through.

If you relish managing aren't away games more of a challenge? Another idea might be to manage 1 game then 2 games alternatively of each 3 game series and 2 games of each 4 game series. Just a thought!

I figured if I managed only home teams, that would make it like home-field advantage for my team.
