feeder league and creating own schedule

2 more questions, I feel like I should be placing these questions elsewhere. I'm not exactly new to OOTP but I admittedly haven't spent a lot of time with it.

First, I have my HS feeder league set for a 60 game schedule. I noticed this season that the playoffs were still running when my First Year Player Draft for my fictional major league took place. Should I reduce the number of games to maybe 50, so this doesn't happen again? How do you guys run your feeder leagues? How many games?

Second, with my fictional major league, I have it set for a 90 game season. I am starting to realize that with a 90 game season, it is going to be almost impossible for guys to break some milestones, like 300 wins, 3000 hits, stuff like that. I'm thinking about upping the games in my major league to 120, that would help some. But my real problem with the 90 game schedule is the way the games are scheduled. I have it set for 3 game series, and there doesn't seem to be any set days when the series will play. For instance, I have a lot of Saturday, Sunday, Monday series, or Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. I don't necessarily have a problem with it, but what do you guys think about it? If I were to create my own schedule so this doesn't happen, where a series won't start at the end of a week and finish the beginning of the next week, would I have to create a schedule every season? I'm just thinking about options to make my fictional dynasty a little better.

Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

You haven't spent a lot of time with it but you have almost 400 posts?

60 games is a a bit much for high school. The default is 40. As for the schedule go see if there is any custom schedules already created for your league setup. You should definitely think about upping the season length if you want to have records more in line with real baseball.

I was going to drop it to 50, but I like 40 better. Thanks. Where would I check to see if there are any created schedules? And yea I'll probably up the schedule next season to a minimum of 120 games. With my week by week reporting format, it'll take me a bit longer to get through a season, but you're right, the records will be closer to actual baseball.

And yea I may have a lot of posts, but that's because I spend time posting, have all these great ideas, and then flake out on my dynasties. I think I've tried about a dozen different dynasties and none of them tend to last more than a season or 2. So a lot of posts, but not a lot of results. lol

I think what a lot of people do for feeder leagues is just ensure that their schedule ends before the draft. You can do that by pushing the start of the feeder league season earlier, or possibly by disabling playoffs. (do you really care who won your high school feeder league championship?)

As far as schedules go, if you care about what days of the week the games are played on, yes, you can end up needing to make many different schedules. The game will use the same schedule year after year, but because of subsequent years won't start on the same day of the week, as of year two it will be out of sync. So what you initially set up as a Friday through Sunday series might end up being Tuesday through Thursday the following year.

Here is the post that houses 99% of all custom schedules.

Thanks for the information. I don't necessarily care who wins my HS league playoffs, but I do want some kind of playoff, so I think, like someone else said, 60 games is a bit much for a HS league. I'll cut it down to 40-50 games, and then cut a level or 2 out of the playoffs.

As far as the league schedule for my fictional major league, I don't necessarily have a problem with a Saturday-Monday or a Sunday-Tuesday series. I know college softball tends to have a lot of those Saturday-Monday series, it just doesn't conform to the typical major league schedule. But, I certainly don't want to have to make a lot of schedules or have pretty much the same exact schedule every year, with just different dates. So I may leave that as is, but I'll probably take a gander to see if there are any custom schedules out there that will fit my needs. Thanks.

Thanks, I think I may have actually found a schedule that works for both my KJCCC league and HS Feeder league.

The KJCCC schedule, I'm looking at the 148 game one. I few more games than I wanted, but it fits. The HS feeder league, there's a 30 game schedule. I could have used a few more than that, but with both leagues being 20 teams, the options weren't very many for what I'm looking for.

Now I just need to get through this season and then figure out how to get those schedules into my game and hope that it's not the exact same every single season.

You are aware that you can change those milestones in league setup, aren't you?

Here's an example of a league I have with a 40 game schedule.

I was aware of that, and I had thought about that. I wasn't sure what kind of milestones to have with a 90 game schedule. I do admit I like 90 because with my week by week posts, a heavier schedule would take a lot more time to get through a decent career. But there's no good created schedules for a 90 game, 20 team league, and I really, really don't want to take the time to create one every year. I'm still weighing my options. Fortunately I got a lot of time in my current season so I can think about exactly what I want to do.

Provided I do end up sticking with the 90 game schedule, perhaps someone could give me an example of where they would set their milestones? I've got a few ideas in my head for that as well. Thanks for all the help everyone

90/162 = .556

Apply the .556 multiplier to all the milestones.

Isnt there away to make the schedule match the days of the week played by auto adjusting the start date/day of week?

Yes, actually, I believe you're right. If you set the schedule to start on a particular day of the week, you could use the same schedule for multiple seasons, and you would be able to keep the games on the right days. However, you would still have an identical schedule (although I think the teams would change). Also, the start date of each season would vary slightly depending on the calendar.

I have found a schedule that I like for my KJCCC league. How would I incorporate that into my league when it becomes the offseason? I've never done anything like that before and I want to make sure I do it right so that I don't screw up my KJCCC league. Thanks.

League Setup - Options Tab. Top right, input sched info - # of games, start day, etc. Then click "Edit Schedule"

2nd screen will open. Dropdown top right, select "Clear Schedule". Same dropdown, select "Import from File"

Select your sched file. If you get an error msg (such as Not imported due to Balanced Sched) go back to the first page and change the setting then import again from 2nd page.
