Favorite lopsided trade playing historical seasons

Both a blessing and a curse being able to know the career history of historical players. I just started a franchise with the Mets in 1986 and am trying to make the dynasty even better. To that end there are tons of guys out there I'd have loved to see on my team so I have started trying to upgrade the roster while still having an a World Series contender.

My first heist (I've got trading difficulty on normal and I like it that way) was to pry Cal Ripken Jr from Baltimore for Mookie Wilson. I still can't seem to pull the trigger on a deal to get Barry Bonds away from Pittsburgh but I've got my eye on him. I don't need pitching or I'd be working on getting Greg Maddux and David Cone.

So much fun trying to upgrade. I'd probably try easy difficulty for a laugh. I won't do the force trade as commissioner though. I have "standards", lol.

What magic have you pulled off?

I stole 21 year old OF Rocky Colavito and 20 year old SP Mudcat Grant from Cleveland for 37 year old 1B Mickey Vernon and 34 year old SP Jimmy Schmitz. The reason I let it happen is because the year is 1955 and their tremendous core players are all getting old and their window is closing fast. Cleveland is in win now mode. Before the trade the Tribe had a half game lead over the Yanks and a month later are up by 9 games so if they win the WS I won't feel too guilty. Vernon was hitting around .270 for me but since moving to Cleveland is batting .330. He must be pumped to be finally going to a WS which was never gonna happen with the Senators.

Trade setting = Hard / Neutral

I'm the Montreal Expos, and before the '94 season, I get the Dodgers to trade me Pedro Martinez, who is right at the beginning of a HOF career, straight up for Delino DeShields. Hahaha . . . oh, wait, you mean in OOTP.

But make sure to trade the HoF pitcher away if the Red Sox offer you their top two pitching prospects.

Are you a Mets fan? I can't believe you'd trade away Mookie Wilson, that's an unforgivable sin in my book. Yeah, yeah, it settles the unwieldy platoon situation in center that dragged on too long while resolving the weakness at short, and we know now that Dykstra's best years were ahead (especially considering he won't necessarily have the personal problems and injuries that held him back in real life) and Wilson only had one or two good ones left in him, but, still. You just can't give up on Mook!

All kidding aside, I don't usually do historical, but a few versions ago I started up with the '87 Mets, to see if I could avoid the pitfalls the real Mets fell into in the late 80's and early 90's. But I couldn't resist grabbing Greg Maddux for a bunch of nobodies (too long ago to remember who), and I got so annoyed with myself for using my own knowledge of the "future" that I basically never played historical again. Some people use house rules to eliminate that type of thing, but I didn't have the discipline.

I always like making lop-sided trades. Especially fictional leagues. If I notice that a team is playing terrible,I will go to the top of the standings and start sending the top teams best player (or two or three) too help out the weaker teams.

I've got a manager only sim with the 1969 Seattle Pilots where my GM somehow got Frank Howard for two prospects that will likely never make the majors. He pulled that off in our expansion year and Howard won the MVP for the Pilots. We still finished 9 games under 500 and suck in 1970 so far but attendance is way up.

Yes, lifelong Mets fan. I love Mookie Wilson and even spent some time watching his son Preston at spring training when he was in the minors. I had to figure out some way to get an upgrade over Rafael Santana at short (the dude hit .198 or something like that in '86 IRL). So, I had a deal where I could ship off Mookie or Lenny so I decided I'd keep Lenny as he is coming into his prime whereas Mookie is older and more expensive.

You wouldn't believe what I just did with Ray Knight....

At least you were in a position to tell that used car salesman from Milwaukee to shove it...
