At 28, if you haven't made an impact in the Majors, you probably won't ever. This wasn't the case for Rene Tosoni. He had around 150 AB's and hit around .200 as an outfielder for the Twins in 2011. A couple years passed going from Minor League team to another. In the 2015 season for the Sioux City Explorers, an Independent League team. As the Twins struggled in the AL central, they looked for anything to help them win a couple games in 2016. A lack in finances for FA's held them from signing any veterans, and nothing in AAA or AA that could help the Twins out forced them to look at other options. They saw a 28 Canadian Right Fielder that hit 15 HR and hit .324 in an Independent league. It was a familiar face in Rene Tosoni. They gave him a minor league deal and he started the 2016 season in AA. After 24 games, he hit .398 and had 20 RBI. He was moved to AAA where he hit .354 in 45 games. After an injury to Alex Escobar, he was called back up to Minnesotta after a 5 years abscent. He took the league by storm after the All Star break where he hit .378 and hit 17 HR. The next season in 2017 he was in the opening day lineup. He hit .314, with 23 HR and 87 RBI. At his age 31 season in 2018, his best was shown as he hit .330, hit 31 HR, and had 98 RBI. His Twins went to the playoffs but lost the Wild Card game. Over the next 5 seasons with the Twins, they never went to the playoffs and only had one winning season. Tosoni never stopped, hitting at least 18 HR and 70 RBI until his last season in 2023. He went to 4 All Star games and finished 2nd in MVP voting in 2018. For Canada (I did a WBC every 4 years) he lead Canada in 2018 along with Joey Votto, Brett Lawrie, and Dalton Pompey to 3rd place after losing to Cuba in the semifinals. In 20 total WBC games, he hit .305 with 4 HR, 2 being Walkoffs. Rene Tosoni, the man passed on by everyone.
