Importing players
Rather than a draft each year in an historical league I like to import rookies to the team for which for which they played.
Having them start at the age which the were when the first came to the majors. I am working with ootp11 but would now like to use ootp17. as far as I can tell that is not possible with the tools now available so if I need to change the data by myself I think I saw that the current files with ootp are somewhat different than the Lahman database. Is that correct> Or by chance am I wrong and can the ootp import nowbe set to do this? |

you can have historical rookies enter the game the year they were rookies in 17. Two different settings. One if you want them to enter the team they started with, another for them to be in the rookie draft. Under Game Settings> Historical you will find a box that says "Automatically Import historical rookies" . Check it and that will put them on the teams they started on, as long as you have disabled the rookie draft. you can do that at Game Settings> Rules you'll need to be certain the box for the amateur draft is unchecked (you can only change that setting in the preseason i believe.) If you have both import historical rookies and the draft, the players will enter the game in the draft in their rookie seasons, and are open game all the teams in the draft. if you want to import players manually, i believe you can still do that with the import players tool on the free agents page (drop down tool on the far right). i don't know if it will work with files from 11, as 17 doesn't use Lahman's. However, the game still uses the players ID which i think is Lahman's, so that import tool possibly should work. Only way to know for certain, is to give it a test. hope this helps. Enjoy the game. it's great.

if you do use the historical rookies entering the teams they started with, they will appear on the first day of the off-season, in the box of "players for assignment" .... they'll be there 10 days by default, so if you use that feature, be certain to check and assign them to your minors, or major league teams before their time runs out (the game will tell you on the last day you have players at need to be assigned, if i recall correctly).

Can you have random historical rookies in your draft if you started in 2016?
