How do I make a "World" (calling bluenoser and others)
I was told by bluenoser that I should make a "world!" That this is HUGE and I should immerse myself in making my own world! I know how to make a league by league set-up, state or country, team names, etc. but how do I make it bigger then that?! I see many of you have full blown backgrounds and storylines, but I dont have that kind of time. How do I make my world with little time.
Sorry if I sound like an elementary school student, but I am still trying to get ahold of the magnitude of OOTP! |

In short, you never will get ahold of the magnitude. It's relentless overwhelming, often even at the smallest levels.
Are you actually in Missouri? For simplicity and practicality, during league creation you can regionalize your league, e.g. Midwest. Based on what I've read of yours, I might suggest beginning with a league as small as 12 teams. Maybe 2 Leagues of 6 with a single division in each. Rules as you wish. The scope will be small enough for you to follow over time, maybe review weekly or play out your games, and regionally it might offer enough familiarity to aid immersion and/or imagination. FWIW Guess I should add, that's enough world for now. If your life situation changes or time availability, familiarity with the game, etc... you can always add leagues later, bring in a British competitive league or expand yours to incorporate the east coast. Only limits will be your time, patience, and imagination. Initially, small 'worlds' are good worlds. There is every possibility you may experiment only to scrap this one a month down the road and create again. There are folks here who play little and create a lot. You may end up hearing from them as well.

I don't want to give bad advice but look for a template that may be more than you want and delete the excess. I run only MLB and three levels of minors because I have a real life. From what I've read you do at a level I can't fathom. It's all about what lets us play.

I live in Halifax, NS - east coast Canada, grew up here and lived here most of my life except for all the times I was moved around during my 30 years of service.
I created a league loosely based on a real league - NSSBL (Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League) Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League I've followed this league a lot, especially since I retired in 09. The real league has 5 teams, I added a 6th for scheduling simplicity. Teams play 40 games, 8 gms against everyone else. Teams play 4 games a week, every Sat & Sun, plus Tues/Wed or Tues/Thurs, or Wed/Thurs. (Custom made schedule) I could go on and on about all my custom details, but you get the idea. It's very easy for me to immerse myself in this league and grow it into a world, because I can create a million story lines that all fit Nova Scotia. You keep saying you don't have time, which leads me to think you're in a hurry to sim. Why? Some days I play out 1 days worth of games, (I play out every game of the league) some days 1 game. There's no rush, you don't have to get a bunch of simming done. Play at your pace, whatever fits your schedule. You have all the time in the world, your league doesn't have to evolve into a "World" the first day you start it up. When I say play at your pace, I am also answering your plea in another post about getting your life sorted because of how busy you are. There's a million suggestions, but one simple answer - balance. Fit what you have to do into a balanced schedule that fits your time. Applies to your OOTP League and Life. ![]() G/L in both ventures. Last edited by Bluenoser; 04-26-2016 at 08:04 PM. |

Bluenoser, no, I'm not in a hurry. I just live a very busy and sometimes chaotic life and am trying to figure out the best baseball experience for me. I want to be in a GM position or set up a fictional league and enjoy the fruits of my labor. I have my OOTP set to where games, played out, last about an hour.
I also have a hard time concentrating. But I am just wanting the best experience for my limited time but will watch games actually play out. Hope that all made sense!

If you find that you only get to play a few times a week, maybe keep it to a small league. Be easier to "get to know" and "remember" who's who in your world with fewer teams/players. I have big plans already for where my league will be going. I really wish Associations would get some loving in the game, then I could do all the Senior Leagues in Canada and hold the annual Senior Baseball Championships. Ahhh, another dream for another version I hope ![]() G/L with whatever you decide on. |

Since 6.5 I have messed around with all sorts of things in this game, and have discovered that a 24 to 32 team league is about as much as I can handle/sustain while maintaining a full-time job and a life. But by all means do whatever you like that you can sustain.

Don't rule out using a 1 subleague format. I know when I manage, gm or even just follow one team as a fan, I often find myself ignoring the subleague my team doesn't play in. That subleague is often nothing more than a standings page and a leaderboard. Another thing that can really help is to use the reserve clause or you can increase the number of years before a player is eligible for free agency. That way, players stay on teams longer and you will start to identify franchises by player/s.
The cool thing about 1 subleague and OOTP. You can start small with a 8 team 2 division setup, expand to 10 teams 2 divisions, 12 teams, 14 teams and even 16 teams and the game comes with the schedules to do so. There's also a really nice 154 game schedule that fits a 12 team no division setup. |
