Weird Career Ending Injuries

I've been playing OOTP since OOTP12 and I've yet to see this ever.

I'm playing OOTP17 and in two separate, modern, MLB seasons I've seen two career ending injuries. In the past these were things like "cracked skull", "torn UCL" and other fairly serious injuries. In OOTP17 I've seen two players have their careers ended for "inner ear infection" and "sore shoulder".

It's not a big deal. I can change the injury to whatever I'd like in commish mode. It's actually funny considering someone ended their career over an ear infection.

Are career ending injuries random and I just happened to get two "strange" injuries or have I just not ran in to this before?

I remember Nick Esasky having career-ending vertigo IRL, I suppose anything is possible

Hmmm that is strange. One can question CEI descriptions from time to time. I've never seen "ear infection" before.

I remember seeing Nick Esasky play at the old Riverfront Stadium back in the mid-80's right before the vertigo got so bad. He crushed a ball so hard and so far, I think they are still waiting for it to drop out of orbit.

Last I heard (a couple years ago), he still has issues - thirty years later.

That's not supposed to be possible, unless you edited the injury database or the file otherwise got changed. There's a specific CEI 'flag' with each injury, and if that flag is on, the injury can (rarely) become a CEI, and if it's off, the injury cannot become a CEI. That flag is definitely off for things like 'ear infection'.

I'm guessing you didn't edit your injury file, so I'm not sure what happened with your game, but if no one else is reporting anything similar, it's likely an issue local to you, and if you replace whatever injuries.txt file you have now with the original default, the issue should probably go away. If everyone is seeing this issue, then the injuries.txt file that shipped with the game got messed up somehow.

I had a guy retire because he an organ to cousin. Then I got a message that both were recovering fine. Then a 3rd message saying the cousin's
Body rejected the organ and for an infection and died. He was a young 27 year old catcher that was one of the best in the league

I definitely did not mess with any kind of database. It's no big deal, though.

In the past few versions using a modified inj text with no CEI (I set the career ending possible bool to 0) I've had 3 or 4 that had regular injuries but suffered a setback and retired.
Maybe something similar here.

Wasn't a career ending injury. But I had a guy miss 3 weeks with a scratched cornea after being attacked by a shark. Figure that one out.

Yeah, gotta watch out around sharks. They might scratch your cornea, so be sure to cover your eyes if you ever find yourself near one!!
