Promoted, then jobless
I decided to try my hand at manager-only mode starting from the ground up. I started by managing the 1962 Auburn Mets of the NY-Penn league and had a great season, going 68-53 on a team that initially had a full roster but as the season went along the guys were slowly drained away until my roster had no starters by the end of the season (Joe Unknown pitches another gem!) and I only just managed to finish in second place one game out of first but one game away from missing the playoffs, too.
I had a season score of 112 and after my last game I was promoted to become the manager of the Santa Barbara Rancheros. During the offseason, the league evolved and the Rancheros changed alliances to the Dodgers. Unfortunately, I wasn't switched to manage the Salinas Mets, I was just in limbo. At first I couldn't figure out what had happened as I had advanced the calendar to the beginning of the off-season and then was left with a completely empty roster. I thought it was a glitch that would fix itself so I advanced to the end of the preseason and still no roster. Wondering what would happen, I simmed a couple games and to my surprise the teams were playing. It was then that I clicked on the Rancheros and discovered their alliance was changed to the Dodgers.
Now realizing I was jobless I went to the Available Jobs and saw that the Raleigh Mets of the Carolina League needed a manager so I applied and am now happily managing my hometown (I live in Raleigh) Mets and we are 5-5 overall, 4-2 since I took over as manager.
I am interested to see how far I can climb. It does appear at this level I will have a full roster at least. There are several minor league teams below Raleigh so I am hopeful I'll at least have 5 starters all season. We shall see.
Good Times!
