I beat the '27 Yankees 4-1 with the '91 Twins. Only one that hit for the '27 Yanks was Ruth. Held Gehrig down. They're not that tough.

To be fair, even as a Yankees fan, almost any decent modern team would be able to beat the 27' Yankees IRL, as the level of athleticism and skill has simply skyrocketed since then.

I have to agree with the '39 Yankees. '36 might be just as good.

The best ever though is the '76 Reds!!!!

I know I'm hitting this thread late, but it caught my eye.

I tend to agree with this (and also a Yankees fan), although let's remember that we cannot know for sure. Professional baseball was created by the same generation that fought the Civil War, where they killed more of each other than all the other wars this country has fought combined. These were tough people, playing a very hard version of the game from the very beginning. By 1927, things were no easier at the major league level. I think the 1927 Yankees would do much better than we might expect against today's players.

But a more specific point I want to make is that OOTP is a mathematical simulation of baseball, which does not take into account in any explicit way the changing level of athleticism and skill. Given that, if the 1927 Yankees lose three out of four to the '62 Mets we can chalk it up to something reasonable such as a small sample size. But if the '27 Yankees finish behind the '62 Mets in a eight-team league playing a 154 schedule, something is seriously wrong with OOTP's model.
