or at least a notification your team was losing ( or getting) a minor league affiliate? that'd be useful. (all in good time, i suspect .... they've done some amazing things so far with the minors).

IMHO, the AI makes horrible decisions when selecting protection lists. It tends to over-value RPs and ignores age and high salaries. In other words, it seems to not understand that old / expensive players are less attractive to expansion teams, and less likely to be picked.

Here's what I did to test: using 2016 rosters, I turned scouting accuracy to 100% and AI evaluation to 100% ratings. This should give all AI GMs "perfect" information based on who should perform in the game (ratings) vs who has in real life (last few years stats). 15 man protection lists.

What I noticed:
-NYY unprotect their starting SS (gregorius) in favor of a talented by 40 year old DH (A-Rod making $20M for 2 more years. They have no ready option at SS, but have hitters that can DH.
-Bos protects RP Uehara and leaves Tazawa exposed. Their ratings are similar, Tazawa is 10 years younger and makes $6M less
-Mil unprotects 24 Year old SS and leadoff hitter Villar in favor of 34 year old 3B Aaron Hill who makes $12M. Ratings are almost identical.
-Minn protects 2 below avg RPs over several big prospects, including C John Ryan Murphy
-TB protects 2 RFs and several RPs over 3rd starter Matt Moore

If you bump the protection list up to 18 or 20, it gets even weirder.

I'm not asking what the logic is, or for a drastic tweak, or to pick apart any of the above examples.....I'm just wishing it could be slightly improved.

No, sorry. We will release a fixed database file in the next couple of days. Still a few issues to work out (catchers are somewhat screwy in 2014 and 2015).

I couldn't understand why so many had crashes in 3D because I never experienced any but the first thing I always do is disabling the sound.
