One-Run Games
Has anybody had issues with terrible one-run game records? I've had 3 seasons in a row where I've been good every where else like top 5 in most pitching and offense categories, similar lefty/righty records, but terrible one-run game/extra innings records. I finished my last season 80-82, which isn't great. However, I was 25-41 in one-run games. I had similar cases in the past 2 seasons but not as drastic.
Is there a strategy setting I'm overlooking? By the numbers I should be much better, so I'm thinking strategy. My current strategy is close to center or a little less in all categories with a current MLB setup using the Padres (first mistake, i know). Any suggestions are appreciated. |

I would start by looking at your strategy settings for (+/- 1 Run).
First - what's happening in these games? Are we unable to score runs? Maybe I need to get a bit more aggressive with my offense in those type situations. Or - are my relievers not holding leads? Maybe I need to hook relievers a bit quicker in those situations. Or - am I leaving my starter in too long in close games? These are the types of things managers deal with all the time, you gotta start the process of elimination and figure out what's wrong, and then how do I fix it. That's what makes being a manager so much fun, and so frustrating at the same time. ![]() And that's just one place to look. Could be other things as well. Well, you know what happens when you assume........
I assumed because my bullpens stats like ERA, WHIP, etc were all in the top five, that they were not the problem. Hell, my pitching staff as a whole was amazing, so I "assumed" it was a strategy issue. Nope, after a closer look I saw these jokers had a combined 17 blown saves and 38 losses. I sim all my games, so I never caught it due to their other stats being so good. Let's just say there are a couple dudes looking for work right now. |
