...I simmed it because I'm running a 64-team tournament and I want to get through it in reasonable time. Thrown by one of the most disgraced players in baseball history...Eddie Cicotte, a member of the infamous 1919 Black Sox team who was in on the fix. Well, this is the 1915 White Sox, and Eddie looks OK to me. What say you? I know...Screenshots or it didn't happen...

What made you pick the 1915 White Sox? Although they had a good record, they didn't even finish first that year.

Glad to see them win though. Maybe they will win the whole thing!

As I outlined in greater detail in this thread, I chose to do a 64-team tournament where all the teams finished their respective seasons with a run differential of at least +200. There are 91 such teams from 1901 through 2015. The 1915 White Sox are #37, so they matched up against the 1911 Athletics (#28) in the first round. I ranked them using Pythagorean Winning Percentage, which is:

runs scored^2/(runs scored^2+runs allowed^2)

...and took the top 64, and set to work on laying out fair brackets i.e. 1 vs 64 in one half of the draw, 2 vs 63 in the other half of the draw, and so on...Sooo many Yankees teams...15 in the top 64, and 23 in the top 91. Wowsers! I guess the smart money's on the Bombers, but anything can happen in a 7 game series, let alone 63 of them!

The 1915 White Sox were down 2 games to none to the 1911 Athletics and then reeled off four straight wins to take the series 4-2. The Cicotte perfect game tied the series at 2, and they took it from there 8-1 and 3-2. They face a bit of a road block next though: the 1927 Yankees (shockingly the #5 seed).

It'll be a while. I'm still not half way through round 1 yet.

Just noticed Red Faber hit a grand salami off of Chief Bender in the 8-1 win in Game 5. Cool.
