I'm an idiot or nobody cares or this is a huge unaddressed bug
I chose to play with the new historical minors this year. This is the first time I've used the minors so I'm not exactly an expert and it wouldn't surprise me to learn that I'm doing something wrong. However, if I'm not, then there is a rather large problem here.
My league started in 1919 and I chose the Senators. I also chose historical minors. It appears that in real life the Senators didn't have any minor league teams until the early 30's. Therefore if I choose a 25 man roster with a 40 man secondary roster I still will end up having to cut 15 players to always have my secondary roster at 25 since I have nowhere to send those 15 players to like the game insists I do. Therefore I must play with only 25 players and if there is an injury, tough luck to me. So, I increased all rosters to 40. That solves my problem but it's ugly. I don't think I should have to use 40 players. I rue the day I chose historical minor league rosters. If I'm doing something stupid, please tell me. If it doesn't work as you hoped when there was a time when many teams didn't have minors, please fix that.

Can I choose two of the three?
![]() Seriously, I don't know the proper answer to your problem, and I think there should be a solution because you aren't the only one that will experience this issue (perhaps you are the first though). Here's a possible workaround. Create a small AAA league (4-6 teams) and make sure ghost players are allowed in your game (should be the default). Affiliate one of the teams to Washington. Demote your extra players to this team. |

Yep, I'd probably just do what Orcin suggested. You might even be able to add one team to an existing league to be your affiliate.

I believe you can also enlarge your secondary roster size from the League Settings / Rules page in Game Settings.

i wouldn't worry that it won't get fixed....
until then just use commissioner mode liberally in those specific situations. |

I really don't like workarounds (which is what I'm doing now). I don't see others "complaining about this" so it's either I'm the only using historical minors in the 20's, others have no problem, or others just gave up.
Please, oh powers that be, should I just give up or do you have something up your sleeves?

This is something that requires a longer development time. It will get fixed eventually, maybe patch #2 in a couple of weeks.

Is it possible for some teams in a league with an affiliated minor league to have reserve rosters? The manual seems to imply this is theoretically possible on this page ("Depending on the configuration of your league and affiliations, it is possible (although rare) to have some teams in a league that have reserve rosters, and some that do not."), but I don't think the option to have reserve rosters even appears if there is an affiliated minor league. Perhaps that is the change Markus is considering.

Stupid question time. Are you ready? What happens if you disable the secondary roster and leave the reserve roster set to no limit? Or is the secondary roster mandatory in order for real minors to work since some team have minors and others don't?

Alright, I started a 1922 historical league. Disabled the secondary roster. Took over the Pittsburgh Pirates. I have 25 men on the active roster. 9 players on the reserve roster. Detroit, St Louis and the Cubs have minor league teams. All other teams have reserve rosters. I have no clue how many folks can be on the reserve roster, but it is there.
