Not Working

I might be posting this in the wrong place but I need some help. I just got this game and was crazy excited to play but when I tried to start a game it just stops working. The main menu will load fine and nothing happens there but the second I try to start a game, current, fictional, or historical it just says that there was a problem and it has to close the game. I just poured 35 bucks into this game and I really want to play it. Thanks.

P.S. I think I should mention I do have an external hard drive, don't know if it affects anything but just in case.

Try to install it on a normal hard drive, I am not sure if it works if installed on an external one.

If this still does not work, go to the game settings, and set the helper threads option at the bottom to none.
