Question about historical minors

I created a historical league with historical minors. I am not happy with the inherited 40-man roster, and there is no way to control this before the AI creates the game.

The AI puts 18-20 year old prospects that have no prior pro experience on the 40-man roster, thus potentially wasting all three option years and blocking the roster spot for someone that really appeared on the major league team in that season. The only solution is to expose the prospects to waivers, and of course the AI teams claim all of them.

Does anyone know of a way to remove players from the secondary roster via the commissioner mode? I can't find a way to do it. The only solution I have so far is to allow the players to be claimed and then put them back on my team via the commissioner mode. I am hoping for something that does not leave a false transaction in the player history.

My opinion on a real solution is that the AI should fill the 40-man roster with players that appeared in the majors for the team in question first, and then complete it with players that have enough experience to be subject to Rule 5 draft. If they are out of options, so be it. Players with zero pro experience should not be on the 40-man roster even on AI teams.

there's a few discussions in "Historical Simulations" that might add some insight. Not certain. But best i've discovered, until the minors start appearing (slowly) in 1919, you're stuck with the reserve or 40 man roster - until 1934 when everyone has at least one minor league. i haven't found a way around it yet, and i've tested about 4 different ways .... if you find something, PLEASE let us know. Markus wrote in one of the threads on general discussion a while back that you can't have fictional (self or game created) minors with historical ones. Bummer.

I am fine with having a 40-man roster. I just don't like who's on it.

I am not sure how this addresses my question. Did you perhaps post in the wrong thread?

What would happen if you used Commissioner mode to release the player or put him on another team? Will he disappear from the 40 man roster? Then you could just fill the 40 man roster spot and put him back on the appropriate farm team. I've always thought just about all things were possible in commissioner mode. Of course, you'll have to disallow AI roster changes, or the AI will just do it again, possibly waiving someone you want in the process.

Thank you!! Using commissioner mode to put the player on another organization's minor league team will remove him from my 40-man roster. Then I can put him back on my minor league team, and there is no transaction on either team's log.
