You need two products from Auslogics: Boostspeed and Driver Updater. The first one fixes all the problems that can slow your system down and the second one will keep your drivers up to date, and obsolete drivers cause far more problems than anybody would ever suspect. Also defragment your hard drive(s) regularly.
I've been using these for years, and they work like a charm.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.
