Do I have the ability to alter the playoff schedule? I noticed in both the series for my league in 1871 and 1872, the scores are like football scores after game 3. I am thinking to space the games out more to have the pitchers rest and not use a another positional player to pitch.

Yes, you can change the playoff schedule in the in-game schedule editor (go to league settings/edit league schedule).

Before you do that, though, check the pitching rotations for the two teams. Even if you had one-man rotations during the season, you might have three- or four-man rotations in the post-season. That's a longstanding bug with 19th-century leagues.

yes you can change playoffs to however you want ... just change setup to custom and you can set up the playoffs anyway you wish

OOTP does not have historically accurate post-season schedules; the game creates them itself. (It's an open question what the real post-season would have been like in 1871-72 since there was no post-season in those years.)
