Optimal Settings for Realistic Baseball
I remember in the OOTP 16 forum there was a thread that talked about settings to make the baseball experience more realistic (things like inury frequency/severity, etc). I can't find that thread anymore; does anyone have any similar suggestions for OOTP 17?

I usually stick with the defaults. The game is designed to generate the most realistic outcomes on defaults, at least for my taste

You sure you aren't confusing it with a reddit thread?
https://www.reddit.com/r/OOTP/commen...and_trick_ive/ Might not be what you're thinking of, but it has a lot of modifiers and most were in line with what I personally use, for what it's worth. |

I tend to turn the injuries down one notch. I have found the default setting a bit high, but one notch down to be better (but still leaves a lot of injuries happening each season).

If I wanted to manage injured people I'd work in a hospital.

CEI's are tweaked in OOTP 17 and happen less often compared to OOTP 16.

Thanks, Markus, I'll go back to using the stock injury.txt file now. I'm pleased that you guys recognized and fixed that problem.

imo, a fictional league starts with HR around 5000. this is extremely high. if i recall the default lt/ltm for non-fiction is as good as anyone's choice/guess. if you don't think this sort of stuff is boring, go export the batting/pitching data from baseball reference.com and figure out the averages for each LT/LTM you want the game to strive for. you can then easily pick and choose what data you want to average for each LT value. use auto-calc (ugh!) or.... get the simpler LTMs in line first. hits and most of offense is complex. if you add to hits, you will get more 2b, 3b, hr for obvious reasons. so will decreasing K's because more balls will be in play. just get them in the ballpark before the first sim test. autocalc to start isn't a bad idea. simulate 100-200 years. adjust the simpler ones in a strict manner, and apply a lil common sense to the LTM that influence each other. if babip is too high, lower hits. if babip is good but hits are low, decrease K's. if oyu incrase BB, you are decreasing balls in play, so hits, 2b, 3b, hr should all fall according to proportion. think about ramifications of lower/increasing any LTM and it's effects on other LTMs. the spreadsheet does not consider this stuff. it's a future upgrade to the spreadsheet i am not likely to implement. somethings may or may not translate well.. e.g. dp, gidp, lidp. there is no feedback on LiDP from league stats export. does lidp cover all of dp minus gidp? or might there be some small nuance i don't recall off the top of my head. if calculated from dp-gidp from stat export is correct, LiDP is extremely low occurence relative to RL. i find i need a LTM of ~7.500 to get it in line with LiDP stats from RL. that makes me think i am reading or doing something wrong... but maybe not. balks are impossible to tune between ~100 and ~170 in my 28 team, 156 game leagues. you may have a different experience. i have not found the exact point in '17 but it is behaving the same as '16. in '16, a Balk LTM of .495 resulted in 100balks per year on average. a LTM of .496 resulted in a 168balks per year average. i have not found this exact point in '17, but it is exhibiting the same behaviour. small potatoes. talking about ~30 balks per year. i'll either rotate between 2 LTM values or just leave it and live with the +/- 30. if this sort of thing frustrates you, don't delve too deeply into LT/LTMs. ignorance is bliss as they say. even good games have blemishes... this is hardly one, imo, but you may find somethign you don't like.
