Some Historic Player Given Wrong Positions

I tried starting 1938 league four times and Joe Medwick of the Cardinals come out as a first basemen with no ratings for any other position. He was a left fielder. He was no rating for left field. I saw another post in which Norm Cash was a shortstop. Something seems amiss with the historic fielder ratings.
