I created a fictional league and made myself a GM of a team. Is there a way in 3D just to watch the game unfold on automatic, rather then have to make pitches, etc.?

Yes. on the game options screen before the game starts, look on the left hand side on your screen and set all strategies and substitutions to your manager.

You can also un-check the "pause after each play", then sit back, grab a cup of coffee, and you don't have to click anything and can just watch the game.

The "pause after each play" checkbox, by the way, is in the upper part of the menu once you begin playing in the game.
