Getting Back into the Game

Over the past couple of years I have been continuing to buy the new versions as they come out but admittedly have barely played. Regardless of my lack of playing regularly for a few years, I have always been happy to put my dollars behind Markus' and the team's work to make such a great game.

With 17 coming out, I'm looking to get back into the game this year. I tend to play a fictional game and am thinking about how to build some player history before taking over. If the game can support it, my idea is to start in 1870 with a number of small local independent leagues. There would be about 60 teams total with no minor league system. My thought is to let that run for thirty years and then have the "Major League" form in 1900. It would be made up from the big-city teams from the independent leagues with the other teams/cities forming an initial minor league. The league would build from there.

Any thoughts about how I should get this going and any issues that I may run into?

You can do that. And when the time comes to expand you can add in historical teams if you want. If you don't want any changes before then make sure to turn off the league evolution settings.

Yes, I'm being the lesser man and letting the incessant trolling get to me. You win Wolf! I want to talk about the game and share ideas in this community but the posts devolve to these petty insults way too often which is a real shame since I am quite sure that most of us just want to have spirited and positive conversations.

Do you have problems reading emojis? There's this thing called humor and that whooshing noise was some of it going right over your head.

Trust me, if I was slamming you, you would know it.

Sounds like a cool idea! And one that shouldn't be too hard to set up. When you get to 1900 it should just be a case of editing league structures & affiliating leagues & you'll be good to go ☺

Thanks. So basically once I hit 1900 I will create the Major League, move the designated teams to that league, and then maneuver the remaining teams and associate those leagues to create a preliminary minor league.

Cmon man he wasn't insulting you he was just making a joke.

Also it's super fun throwing leagues together, just be careful about retiring a team cause you can't bring them back...has been something I've run into a couple times that kind of bummed me out that's why I brought it up.

Anyway enjoy!

Good point on the retiring of teams. I likely wouldn't retire any teams but just assign them to lower level leagues/minors as the universe develops.

I'll leave the "joke" issue alone after this comment. It may truly be innocent in nature but a dry wit almost never translates well to the written word, especially in internet forums. At the same time, I have been on these boards on and off for eleven years and have seen a long term pattern between good-natured humor and unnecessary needling with a wink and a nod.

This obviously is not isolated to our community here but, intentional or not, it leaves a bitter taste and creates a toxic environment in what should be a fun and relaxing diversion. It is a shame as all involved have such great knowledge of the game (both OOTP and baseball IRL) with most posts being very helpful and constructive. It just got to me last night. I apologize for feeding the distraction and will focus my comments only on the game going forward.

Alright let's leave it alone I just think people are very quick to jump the trigger because of past indiscretions.

Regardless, shifting teams and promoting/demoting them as well as changing the reputation of the league can lead to a lot of fun as well. I made a fictional league to play along with MLB and they built their reputation up and are now signing real MLB top talent/free agents. It's a lot of fun. Plus you can do that with foreign leagues too.
