I'm not even looking for abrupt endings. All I'm looking for is the natural causes version long after the player has retired. But yeah, that would be interesting as well.

That sucks it's a big one for me but I do understand. Thanks for the response anyhow.

Also, I don't want to take away from what looks to be a freaking awesome launch so this is far from the end of the world. Hopefully, we'll get there one day.

Owner deaths do not occur as the result of a storyline. That's just something built into the game.

Looks like Crusader Kings II, another great game.

I don't mind not having deaths in the game. If deaths were fair game, then it would only be right to include the chance of me, the manager/GM dying as well, and no longer allow me to play on that save.

Is it just me or is there a huge overlap between OOTP and CKII players? I feel like I see more references to CKII and people who actually play it on here among the few posters than I do in all of real-life, in which I've met exactly two people who also play it.

Crusader Kings II. Lots of people dying in that game. And Karlmann probably was severely stressed because Liudolf was plotting to kill him.

It may not just be you. I'd have to say Crusader Kings II and OOTP are easily two of my favorite computer games of all time (although OOTP still leads by a landslide). I think the roleplaying detail you can get from both is a pretty similar experience.
Which kind of begs the question (for me, anyway) of what would happen if you added CKII elements to OOTP. You could have plots-playing as GM, you could plot to kill your owner. You could send your scouting director out to sow dissent in an opposing team's clubhouse. The possibilities are endless

I play a lot of CKII and I think there's like a dozen guys here who are active CKII players.

From the CKII product page on Steam:

Reviews
“...playing is winning, and there’s something quite satisfying about leading your house to power and glory through whatever means you can, for as long as you can.”
9,5/10 – Strategy Informer

“In short, Crusader Kings II is a majestic feudal sandbox, the greatest generator of hilarious medieval soap opera ever created and Paradox Interactive’s best title to date.”
90/100 – IncGamers

“It's perfectly possible to have made a few too many enemies, anger the Pope and find most of Europe out for your blood. That's really what makes the game so damn fun.”
9/10 – Destructoid

About This Game
The Dark Ages might be drawing to a close, but Europe is still in turmoil. Petty lords vie against beleaguered kings who struggle to assert control over their fragmented realms. The Pope calls for a Crusade to protect the Christians in the Holy Land even as he refuses to relinquish control over the investiture of bishops - and their riches. Now is the time for greatness. Expand your demesne and secure the future of your dynasty. Fill your coffers, appoint vassals, root out traitors and heretics, introduce laws and interact with hundreds of nobles, each with their own agenda.
A good lord will always need friends to support him. But beware, as loyal vassals can quickly turn to bitter rivals, and some might not be as reliable as they seem... Stand ready, and increase your prestige until the world whispers your name in awe. Do you have what it takes to become a Crusader King?
Crusader Kings II explores one of the defining periods in world history in an experience crafted by the masters of Grand Strategy. Medieval Europe is brought to life in this epic game of knights, schemes, and thrones...
Key features:
Start a game at any point between 1066 and 1337 and play until 1453
Pick a Christian lord and make sure his dynasty survives as you play a succession of his descendants through the ages
Gain Prestige for every successive character you play, furthering the glory of your Dynasty
Expand your feudal domain - and keep it from falling apart
Unravel the plots of your courtiers and vassals, each with their own opinions and agendas
Take up the Cross and fight the Moor, the Heathen and the Heretic.
Defend against the onslaught of the Mongol Horde
Struggle with the Pope for control of the bishops
Relive the Middle Ages with up to 32 other players in a competitive multiplayer mode

In CKII you can literally live storylines that make Game of Thrones look bland. You can make the Borgias look like choirboys. The capacity for intrigue is almost limitless.

CK2 is my second most played game, EU4 isn't far behind...

Sandboxes are a hell of a drug.

Seems awesome.

Also seems like there are a ton of Paradox players on this site. They must be a real good company as well. Good to know we should have a section where we can discuss all this stuff here Id love to learn more about it and frankly the software is real confusing.

He's right. I once had a campaign as the Kingdom of Jerusalem that was the most intense and engrossing gaming experience I ever had.

If you like OOTP and history, you should take a look at CKII, Europa Universalis IV, Darkest Hour and Victoria II.

I play CK2 a bit, but mostly recently Ive been playing Starbound more than any other game. I probably wont play OOTP now until 17 is released.
