Market size question
So I have a 16 team independent league. As you know each team had a market size but one set to huge. But my question is since are small towns in real life that team having it set for huge its huge in compirison to other towns in that league? It does it relate to other cities In other leagues then in reality it should be a small market place? I basically want to know are market sizes in specific league are set in comparison to the other teams in its league I have one league with NYC having a huge market but other league with Modesto also having a huge market. Is Modesto being huge only in comparison to other teams in its league or in really NYC is the huge one and Modesto being in my same wold but different league should actually be categorize as a small market?

Market size is absolute, not relative. If New York and Modesto have the same market size, that means that Modesto's market is the same size as New York's. Bear in mind, though, that market size is only one component in determining attendance. There's also fan interest, fan loyalty, and, most importantly in this particular case, ballpark capacity. If the Modesto ballpark can only hold a third of what the NYC ballpark can hold, then, all other things being equal, you should expect Modesto to draw only about a third of the fans that NYC does.

Quote:
In real life, market size can best be described as the economic capacity of a given location (city/town) to financially support a ballclub. This capacity would be the population of the location times the per capita income—that gives the total pool of money from which a ballclub could theoretically draw. The amount it actually gets is determined by attendance, which, at the major league level, is influenced by a variety of factors, a primary one being club performance. That is not what 'market size' in OOTP is, however. (At some point it would be nice to revise the game's financial system to better replicate the real-world idea of market size as a measure of the economic capacity of a given city/town/metropolitan area.) |
