Historical Minor League Teams and Rosters
Quick question I'm sure has been answered before.
When you start a historical simulation, is there a way to re-create the actual minor leagues and/or players in the systems from that particular year? I've tried starting with various teams from various years (1960, 1980, 2000, etc.) and I just get the prompt asking how many minor league levels I would like to set up. I wasn't sure if this was something you just had to accept when starting in the past, or if there was a way to get the historical minor league rosters without manually re-creating the leagues/teams/logos. Thanks |

You have to remember, the history of the minor leagues is a mess. Teams have disappeared, leagues have disappeared, names and affiliations change all the time. Teams move almost every year. The oldest team nicknames, The Buffalo Bisons, Birmingham Barons, etc. are quite old but those teams haven't existed continuously all this time. The only team that has existed continuously for a long time has been the Rochester Red Wings but they have changed affiliation many times over the years. Entire levels (D & C leagues) no longer exist and even the leagues that exist no have fielded unaffiliated teams even as late as the 1990's. The Ogden Raptors started as unaffiliated.
To try to recreate that in OOTP which pretty much needs a regimented minor league structure would be a challenge. That would actually be an understatement. |

Thanks, all of that makes sense. Does the generic minor league system apply, even if you start a replay in 2012 or 2013 (i.e. years in which OOTP had the full rosters built into those seasons).

Sort of, the problem with minor leagues and Historical is a database problem. The ML stats have been placed in the Lahman Database.
Sean Lahman | Database Journalist There is not anything as comprehensive or dependable for the minors. It makes automating minor league rosters impossible.

But I do know a way to work around that for logos and affiliations at least. If you have old versions of OOTP on your computer you can create a league in an older version and export it up through the new versions. For example I have OOTP 8-16 on my laptop (nice to have a big HDD) so I could create a MLB game in 8 and export it up to 16 and the rosters, logos and affiliations will reflect 2007 (when OOTP 8 came out). So if you have a continuous series of OOTP games that is on way to work around it. |
