Anybody know what the little white boxes are with the numbers inside them??? they are next to the players name on his main page. i notice the better players have more.

Alright, I'm back home and had a day's vacation to recover from the last half of my regular vacation turning into a slow-motion trainwreck, so I'll be working my way through the backlog of questions and messages that accumulated while I got to experience the joys of sporadic internet access. I posted a thread about this but never got an official response.


I'm at the 2017 draft and many of the players are from leagues like Hockeyettan, Third Division and various other leagues that I've never really heard of. Players from the these leagues are taken with most of the first round picks which is weird because I would normally expect most first rounders to be from CHL, SHL, Liiga, etc. Is this suppose to happen or is it just a glitch in player generation?

I just purchased the game, and my serial number is not working when I go to activate it. Can someone please help me?

Hey, so I've searched the forum real quick and I don't think this has been addressed and sorry if it already has been.

I'm doing a historical run with Ottawa and I'm now in 2006, where the salary cap is in and all that new stuff. But my team budget (like all the other teams) are still fixed at 43 M, which makes it very hard to sign new players. Is there a way to manually adjust the team budget?

Your best bet is probably starting with a tech support ticket- our tech support guys are a little more familiar with, and better-equipped, to troubleshoot activation problems than I am.

No, but just to clarify: what I think we actually need to do here is adjust the cap values in the historical seasons. The historically-adjusted dollar amounts aren't literal representations of the finances in a particular season (doing that would lead to big problems because the NHL's finances have had some radical up- and down-swings - like the salary increases after the NHLPA formed or the decreases after the 2005 lockout - which would be very messy for the game's financial systems if we duplicated them, so the dollar translation for historical systems smooths things out a bit). So you don't have a particular advantage or disadvantage over other teams, but we should be dropping the cap down along with the rest of the finances so it matches the in-game salaries for that year a little better.

In 2017, that'd be more likely something going on with player development/movement. Which leagues do you have set to playable?

Those are award histories, they should have award icons next to them. But I think there's an issue at the moment with those not displaying properly in some older saves.

If he's in the AHL/ECHL and contracted to you, right-clicking on his name will give you the option. If he's playing on a junior team, you'll have to wait until the off-season to call-him up, as the NHL-CHL agreement (for the most part) means that once a player is sent back to junior, he's there for the rest of the year.

Any update on the bug causing teams to sign and then release drafted players, primarily highly drafted prospects? Teams also seem to let high potential players go, even after good seasons, when they have adequate cap space. The problem seems to persist in every game mode for me (Historical, Created, and Regular)

I deselected all. Does doing that cause issues with which teams prospects are placed on?

I feel like I've read a little on this elsewhere, but I'm unable to find it again - where is my farm team in historical games? For example, when I start a game in 2000 as the Wild, I've got way too many people on the club and nowhere to really put them that will get them some kind of playing time.

There's no farm team, exactly, in historical mode (yet); the reserve list each team has takes the place of the farm leagues and represents the minors, junior leagues, or any other loan-type arrangement that existed at the time, e.g. the old practice of NHL teams selling players to minor league teams while retaining a right of recall. While on the reserve list, the players will develop at a normal rate (development factors specific to being in a particular league, like quality of competition, don't get considered postively or negatively for players on the reserve list, it's basically a neutral development setting.) I'd like to get a better depiction of historical minor leagues in eventually, but it'll be a big, complicated project.
