I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but you can zip or rar your .lg file onto a flash drive and then transfer it to another computer and play on that. Just remember that the file has to end with .lg for it to show up when you load your game.

Source: I've done this before.

EDIT: You may need winrar to do this if your computer can't zip them itself.

The files you will be look for will be in my documents/out of the park developments/ootp 16/saved games

EDIT2: Do you mean playing the game from the flash drive? You have two licenses, so you can just download it on the other computer and transfer the files as I have stated above.

I'm trying this now, and the issue seems to be that when you open the game from the flash drive (after having copied over the ENTIRE OOTP 16 folder in My Documents), the game still opens and starts to reinstall those files locally on the C: drive.

Is there a way to tell the game to stop looking locally, and instead only interact with this F: drive flash drive I'm trying to use?

Yes but you still need the league file to be local.

heh, i wrote out an easy, elaborate way, but if you have steam, it's better to keep an ootp_setup.exe and a copy of your league directory on the flash drive. then you can install the game on each computer and copy over the league directory.

as long as they all use the same drive letter when the flash drive is plugged in, copying your game's directory can work. this is unlikely. a workaround is noted below.

if you don't have a steam account, the only luck you might have is if the license agreements allows a single instance to be 'loaded' from any computer at a single IP address - your local network - as opposed to single use license key. depends on what they have chosen to implement. if it is at a different location, i doubt there is a legal way to make it work without steam.

----less elaborate way, just in case--------

if for some specific reason you need it on the usb, install it to that flash drive. any computer you can log into steam, make sure to reassign the flash drive letter to the same letter as when you installed ootp on the flash drive. since computer have different configurations, you may want to reassign it to "M" before installing it. pick some letter that you never see a drive use. google has a how-to.

if the game won't install to a flash drive, try copying it over and changing the config file and settings for game paths. if that doesn't work, i think you are out of options.

I have this--I have the game completely downloaded and installed onto the flash drive from Steam. The issue is that whenever I try and open the .exe from the flash drive, it starts installing all of those "first time opening the game" files to my C: My Documents again.

I need a way to tell OOTP to never "talk" to anywhere but my F: flash drive.

custom_folders.ini
e.g.
OOTPAppFolder=f:\ootp16
OOTPCustFolder=f:\ootp16\data

possibly in the game settings, too. regardless, review what is availiable to edit there, too. make sure nothing points to a local drive.

since it's a flash drive, you will have to edit this if the drive letter changes. if changing the app/cust folder does not fix the problem, the game might recognize it's on a flash drive and it won't allow that.

did you install it to the flash drive or just copy it there? if you installed it, these directories are probably correct already.

you could look into something similar to daemon tools lite... that spoofs cd-roms on your hd, but maybe you can find something to spoof your flash drive as a HDD. worth a google if none of this works.

I want to know what files to put on my thumb drive for I might end up having to wipe out my hard drive. I get nervous when working on my own stuff and don't want to lose all that stuff. Also how much memory is commonly needed ???

I installed it to the flash drive from Steam
I open the game, and all of the intial setup files get sent to C: drive
I then copy that entire folder to my Flash drive
I am not sure of a way to "link" that action of me copying it all over (and deleting from the C: drive) so that everything is opened and housed from my flash drive.

I don't think this calls for a virtual drive of any kind--everything can easily fit on this flash drive, I just can't get it to keep away from my local C: drive.

Are those files you listed at the top? I've never seen them, and they didn't turn up in a search.

you might want to post this as it's own thread for more responses. i've never done this, so make sure it's all correct.

i believe the license is in the registry... so you better write down your license, and unlicense the game before wiping your hard drive. you'll only need to back up the league and custom content that you have. you can re-download anything from add-ons central, so don't worry about that unless you have made personal edits to them.

as far as your league, just copy the entire directory to the flash drive. it's either <game directory>\data\saved games or it might be in Documents directory. you can always click the root drive and do a windows search for your league's name if you cannot find it. i don't know wher your custom stuff would be, so you'll have to look into that, but it's in the <game directory>\data directory somewhere (or documents\ootp\data or watever).

your league's size can vary. all the custom content is unknown too. if you have 1gb or more flash drive, you are probably golden. you may need only 1/3rd of that.

start over if you copied the folder from c: last. fresh install to the flash drive, do not load it up.

the file is in the game's root directory. only one file, the examples are text in that file. point each to the game's root directory as well as it's data directory on the flash drive. if it doesn't exist you can make it, and the game will recognize it. make sure it is named *.ini and not *.ini.txt

now try loading it.

if the app paths and data path is set to the flash drive, and it continues to copy over to your local drive, you will need a spoofer. it's possible to recognize flash from hdd, they are different storage formats. the game may not allow this, due to portability and fear of piracy.

if you installed it to the flash from ootp16_setup.exe, or steam equivalent, then i see no reason why you would have to change these things. the game doesn't like playing with flash drives, it seems. unless i have misread something.

I figured it out. All you need to do is:

Start Screen
Settings
Expert
Custom data path (select your OOTP16 folder on the flash drive that has all of the other folders copied over my My Documents)
Exit the game
Optional: Delete files from C: My documents
Restart the game.

Done.

that does the exact same thing as the ini file. i'd bet it now exists in your game directory.

the game settings were mentioned in the original suggestion:
"possibly in the game settings, too. regardless, review what is availiable to edit there, too. make sure nothing points to a local drive."

i thought if it was copying crap over to a hard drive that it wasn't loading to the main screen.
